@sold - Depends on which model to compare

But in my experience . . . I guess it's Nokia, specially with it's latest models . . . but the REAL-winner in this arena will be - Samsung, no doubt !

6233
QVGA 262,144 colour, 320x240 pixel display
w810
262,144-colour TFT
176x220 pixel
6233 screen is far better, had both in the past, sadly 6233 didnt deserved the 16m screen like 6131

maybe not about the tech spec, but I have a dream - I want to have a large and expensive painting(I like landscapes) from some well-known artist on the wall in my living room and a thin transparent LCD display which is placed in front of(or on) the painting instead of the protective glass. And when I turn it on,the painting fades and I start watching a movie, for example. That would be very cool.
P.S.:What about the new Sharp displays?I would like to know something about them,if there is any info about the specs.
This can actually be made as of today. Not with LCD technology, which require a backlight, but there are other solid state technologies that can achieve it. But cost is too high and performace not good enough (yet).

just wish that the mirror plating on my cell's display doesn't make it look so dirty, reflecting all the dust and whatnot there. other than that, can't ask for more. well, maybe for all displays to be as clear as the monochrome displays of old?
It's coming but it takes time to get there. Technology takes time to mature. Actually the clear monochrome LCDs from the past are also even better as of today.
To Jojo:
Well, the human eye have limitations on resolution on a certain surface. So, it would just be pure waste to have 1, 2, 3 MegaPixel in resolution in a small size display for handheld devices.
To ajeetpv:
It was used already several years ago. TFT is already low cost these days and best optical performance. Power is not a problem either, it's the backlight that consumes the most by far, not the actual LCD.
To Bart:
Could be true with OLEDs. But there is still some problem with lifetime and reliability with OLEDs. Performance wise, contrast is excellent, but luminance still a bit low.
To aatuif:
To make a phone thin as a LCD...
That's a challange in terms or reliability! How to make it strong enough?
To all:
Which one has the best display? Well, there are other specs than resolution and size to judge from. Things that are never shown in the phone spec. For example luminance, contrast, color space and color rendering, view angles, response time, etc.
16M colors - I'm not sure it can be of so much use for a normal viewer. It's hard to detect any difference by the naked eye unless you know what to look for. You still need larger color space to make use of the extra colors.
Also, try pressing on the Nokia N93 display, does it look good? It looks like s**t! I can't believe they got away with that without complaints! Try pressing hard on the P990 or M600 as comparison.
I have checked a lot of displays on different phones. SE keeps good and high standard even for low cost devices. Nokia sometimes good sometimes bad, as well as Samsung. Sharp has very good technology, but I have only checked one display on a model from the japanese market.

I don't think an average user can tell the diff., do more colors always mean better display, is there anything as dot pitch in mobile displays as we have in monitors...
