High Street shops such as Carphone Warehouse will be selling the Sony Ericsson K810i sim free at £249.99 I'm aware same as Phones4U but you dont want to go to the latter!

O2 now lock their phones and have been doing so for a while now. I bought a K800 for my girlfriend on the 21st April from my local O2 store. Checked the configuration menu and it shows that the phone is locked. Picture blow is of the K800's sim lock screen.

My W880i which I got at the end of march from O2 was unlocked. As far as I am aware they lock all payg phones but the contract phones are unlocked.

Something to think about, I remember seeing a video clip of an Sony Ericsson bloke showing what you get in the box, one thing was a m2 stick as well. A lot of sites dont seem to show it as coming with one?

The K810i does have a 256MB M2 card in it (already in the phone, not the box), where as the K800i doesn't.

Also, i think the K810i has around 76MB internal memory rather than the 64MB in the K800i.

If anyone wants to buy one off me brand-new sim free for a reasonable price (i.e. close to that of buying them 'sim free' from CPW etc, ie slightly lower price than what you'd expect to pay for a new one on the highstreet, then I might go get one on a staff contract in the next few days and flog the phone to pay the contract lol

Strange though as the K800 I bought for myself last September 2006 was also on O2 Pay and Go (O2 branding) and was completly sim free.
The metallic sand Z710 I have was an ex O2 contract phone (also O2 branding) and was locked until I had it unlocked.

Andy,

if you bought them from CPW they're unlocked (Sim Free) anyways
my ex-red K750i was Sim Free on T-Mobile

CPW get them in Bulk cheap so hence why they sell us PAYG's Sim Free
02 Shops often sell locked handsets, Bougt a 6230i from one ages ago that was locked!
