I can agree that it stinks that they have to change the format all the time, with the only difference that the physical size is decreased, but if you want to jump between different devices, the card with the smallest size is to prefer, since there can always be found an adaptor. I think the Sony M2s are shipped with an MS Duo adaptor, for example. About the storage capacity, it is still somewhat uncertain whether the K800i is capable of handling more than 2GB, at least, the whitepaper says the limit is 2GB.

you donn't have to release a product for it to exist - sony might just have been waiting for the right time, creaming profits off the smaller sizes before they release the larger ones which will cost more to make.

take the quad layer blu-ray discs for example. they exist, but noboy can be bothered to make them because theyre too expensive and nobody actually wants them enough to warrant spending so much money on them. its much easier to sell smaller capacities and wait until the demand for larger capacities is high enough to mean sales at an increased price will be strong enough to cover the increased cost.
