I took the flip off a few months ago.At the beginning it was a bit difficult to get used to it but after a while it proved to be very easy and practical. I know that I don't want flip in P series any more. Regarding my P990 it is absolutely stable phone and I do so much with it daily, business and entertainment. But memory issue is still there so one must be aware that multitasking is reduced i.e. memory and usage itself should be monitoring during multitasking or some apps may be autoclosed due to low memory.
Having said all of that I thing you should go for P1 if money is not an issue for you. It has 4 times more ram,better camera and, what is best for me, its 25 percent smaller than P990.
If there was no P1 announcement I would wholeheartedly recommend P990 since that phone gives me so much joy on a daily basis.

@Geezay

If you can afford it the P1 it is a much better proposition as besides anything else it has an extra 64mb Ram much better camera and and vastly improved OS that currently now one can be sure will make it's way onto the P990. The extra Ram, 15 shortcuts and the improved camera really make it a much better choice IMO.

hey dogmann,
u forgot one of your favorites features, the graphic accelerator:
the light version (P990) vs. the FULL (P1).

@kalu

Are you sure that the P1 has the full version of the PowerVR MBX as that is the first time i have heard that as far as i am aware it is till using the lite version as otherwise it would also offer VGA 30fpfs 640x480 video recording which again i am not aware it does.

I wouldn't consider getting a P1i myself as I have a P990i but if I was in your shoes I would probably wait for the P1i.

Hope my twisted sense of logic helps!
