well, it can happen like this. When SE cybershot/walkman cannibalise Sony standalone cybershot/walkman, Sony may sell its 50% stakes in SE to Nokia and then no longer license its cybershot/walkman technology.

Sony can be quite inwards looking when desperate - why let Ericsson takes 50% profits of what is essentially Sony brands/technology. After selling the stakes, Sony can then restart phone business on its own and continue with the walkman/cybershot line. It is like killing 2 birds with one stone. I bet this scenario has crossed Sony management minds.

@mib1800
Thing is, Sony also depends a lot on Ericsson to assist in the cellular technology behind the phones.

Come on... Sony Ericsson and Nokia won't merge. As the both of them are big companies and making good phones. The Sony Ericsson phones are the BEST the way they are now IMO.

Competition between brands is good! Otherwise there'd be no progress.

If that ever happened, it'd be hello United for me.

Nokia's Technology? Sony Ericsson is always the first for new Technology..

I much prefer SE's menus, much more straight forward.
