i'm not advocating for multiple posts for one topic. the fact is that for such threads it'll be daunting for new readers to join and so the thread'll be dominated by only a few (compared to the number of posts). it could be said that some of the earliest posts in a 4000+ post thread would be unnecessary to read at this time so i'm thinking as a first idea that maybe the mods do some kind of editing(delete some posts)based on their own discretion.

There's also the search button, but what I'd like is the ability to search within threads.
you can almost do that with a work around. add the thread as a favourite and then choosing to search only favourites
my opinion is that when threads become popular and grow to the extent discussed here then the original poster, or someone else with an interest who has posted on the first page or two, should maintain a thread summary with relevant info, links etc. The as a new reader comes along they can instantly get an understanding of the topic.

@masseur
that is where i think the mods should come in, members would not be obliged to do this or might even lose interest after some time so i think it should be the mods that do the summary, or what do you think!

that thought already crossed my mind but we don't always have the same interests or even understanding of some of these threads.
For example I have no clue abut these camera driver threads as I have never attempted to update the firmware in this way. Same with all these patches going around.
its really better all around for an active participant of the thread to take on this task

yes exactly. If you need to find some nitty gritty tidbit that is in the middle somewhere, then you just read read read! I've done it many a time.

read read read! easier said than done in a 4000+ post thread. anyway, i dont think this would be resolved until the whole of esato comes together about it cos then everyone would have something to say.

The only super big thread that was really useful was "TomTom6 for P990i" or something like this.Nice thread with a lot of useful tips inside.
The other ones simply...lost the idea that opened them after some hundreds of posts.
