Try switching the phone off, taking out the battery for a while and then retry
Sounds simple, but might just work

CID51/52 flashing is available only with Wotanserver for now... So you will have to pay imo.

For free fix, just take advantage of SE warranty. They will fix it up for you. Otherwise you have to pay for third party firmware flashing.

Just bring it to authorised SE service centre in your country. Bring the warranty card or the receipt when you bought the phone. Depending of which country you reside, you may have to leave your phone at service centre for 1-7 days.
If you are in hurry then pay 7euro and use wotanserver to completely reflash your phone. You will fix it in 5-30min (depend on your broadband connection).

Ah, don't be too harsh to him. We all love freebies. Frankly if his phone is still under warranty and he has older phone for backup during the phone in service then I recommend him to send the phone to SE service centre. Let SE check and clean the phone thorougly. It is our right anyway as customers.
