Whilst it's not perfect the K8's joystick is much better than the earlier joysticks on the K750i/W800i (Until they put the rubber protector over the joystick unit on the mainboard). Still prone to failiure but not as much as earlier joystick-equipped SEs.

i've never had any problems with joysticks on any of my phones (T68/610/630/K700/750/800) even after a couple of years' use but i'm also pretty disciplined about ALWAYS cleaning the phone and especially the joystick area with a damp cloth or tissue before charging the phone, whether it's every 2 or 3 days.

it may be a bit OC, but 99% of the problems people experience with joysticks are caused by oil and/or dirt entering the joystick mechanism so regularly cleaning it should minimise that risk. it just takes a minute at a time but eliminates the problem completely, in my case at least.

Shame se.I know 2 people still using the old n6600 back from early 2004 and their joysticks are still functional. What's happening?Maybe another con trait eh, eh?Let's fleece the naive so they have to buy phones when they break in an attempt to increase se market shares.Scary but probably true.

You're right about that, I've been cleaning the area around the joystick on my phone regularly ever since I got it. It works really well till now, but it does seem as if it's starting to get a bit insensitive in certain directions. I'm not sure if it's due to hardware fault.

Well, I clean the place around the joystick often too, so as less as possible dust is getting in there. Hope this one will last loooooooong as the w800 one did. Btw the W800 joystick is still working PERFECT .

Give up and bring my K800 to authorised SE service centre under warranty. They replace the joystick mechanism and now zippy again. It only take about 3 hr. I bought my K800 in December 2006.
