That's probably true, but maybe not second - it'd be a tight second in anything.

SE has very little presence in the USA - probably due to the fact that they aren't targeting it. Beats me why they don't though - they said more USA phones this year.

And I don't see SE gaining number 3 in the world next year. Motorola have still got the huge consumer base in the USA, and I doubt they'll move that quickly downwards.

Their V8 and V9 are coming out soon, and they've got a large range of low end phones coming out as well. So I'd say that SE will take at least 1.5 years to get to No. 3.

Hi all,

I really wouldn't start writing Motorola off just yet they have a habit of going into decline and then turning things round. They have a lot of very exciting products coming through shortly. Besides the recently launched Q9 & Z8 they have another 5-6 UIQ3 devices and the new Motorola RAZR 2 in both the V8 2.5G and the V9 3.5G a fully loaded and up to the minute spec device.

I would say it is a safe bet the V9 is going to be a big success as it is 2mm thinner than the original RAZR is made of stainless steel and hardened glass with aluminium hinges it also has touch sensitive with tactile feedback multimedia keys on the front screen. Plus a 500mhz processor and good internal storage plus HSDPA, A2DP and all the other tech you could possibly want. So is a slimmer high power premium device and looks like it everything the RAZR was but now with more than decent specs and IMO is sure to be a big hit. If it's only half as successful as the original that will have a large effect on Moto's fortunes and i wouldn't be surprised if it is even more successful as it offers so much more than the original.

You know dogmann I've read about 75% of your posts over the course of the last 3months(i only intermittently visit this forum nowadays because i get lethargic reading se anorak replies and poor defence) and you are spot on in every post imo.Like me, you've played the field phone/pda wise and realised that grass is greener on the other side(s60v2 and 3)..One question mate!Why are people constantly living in a realm of fiction in that they're constantly trying to defend se regardless of its many faults?

Thanks for your compliments but in answer to your question i really don't know or understand it myself the only thing i can think of is subliminal brain washing on SE phones.

Lol..Yeah, i think brainwashing might quite rightly be the answer.Btw mate nice little setup you have there(n95, e61 etc)..Ain't things wonderful on the s60 platform?Another thing that you say that's completely spot on is re:the moto rzr.It was a crap phone, but from what i can gather very reliable and quite fashionable and cosmetic back then...So yeah, if moto can rehash a similar product with different spec/dimensions etc, i think their world is their oyster.Sorry se fanboys but truth applys:until you manufacture phones with joysticks that last longer than the shelf life of an average wholemeal loaf, make walkman phones with audio similar or better than a non music oriented phone and deliver all what the white paper instructs(ie p990) i sincerely hope you drop and remain well below moto's market chart positon.

USA market wise, i would say, moto is number one. And please dont forget a small brand with a big impact in which the big 4 (nok,moto,sam and se) is trying to emulate and penetrate: blackberry. They have tried but nothing comes close to it in terms of its own niche. Back to the topic, well i would be happy for se to be number 3. It would take time for se to overtake moto and be number one. The big 3 have their own pressures to deal with: nokia of maintaining number 1, moto trying to maintain its #2 position, samsung trying to attain #2, and se eating slowly towards #3. Also guys, moto should watch out for apple's ipod (500k units sold over a very short period of time). Again,we just have to wait and see folks.

SE are targeting the US but you have to remember that SE will only over be able to support GSM in the US as it has bailed out of the CDMA sector, its share of the US market at the moment is 5-6%.

Its profile is getting higher; I've noticed a huge amount of interest in the past 6 months. Eyes have especially turned to since the iPhone launch too.
