I would only be worried about TomTom running on P990. Am not sure if the low ram is not going to be a problem here. Unless you restart the phone before the journey...
As for the firmware update I stopped at R5 version and it was a good decision as R6 version brought in some new bugs I read. R5 was good enough for me with no problems...

I´ve used Tomtom mobile6 for my P990 and it has always worked well, but restart the device befor using Tomtom is a good idé anyway to avoid ram problems.
Regarding the P990 in other aspects i have always liked it a lot a very nice phone.. I have now replaced it with a P1i and it´s even better in most aspects but i miss the clever keylock on the side of the P990.
@kinnth God luck with your new P990 i hope that you will enjoy it as much as i have done with mine!

If you had not put cost as one of your points then P1i would be the best choice
but i think cost wise P990i is best

I run Tomtom most days on my P990i. The only thing I have to do is close a couple of running apps before it starts. Never had any problems actually running Tomtom.

yeah, i had to close apps when i ran tomtom on the p910i so im used to that. When people say its better to restart the phone to close the apps, could you not use swiss manager (sman equivalent) to do the same thing?
now im in the process of waiting and hoping i havnt got ebay scammed! its gettin shipped from china so lets hope its actually what it says on the tin, did anyone here about the chinese "t-phone" anexact rip off of the i-phone by apple. It was released before the i-phone and many people got conned.

I never turn off my P990i to run TomTom. Just need to make sure other apps are closed down first & it runs fine.
I'm also happy with the P990i since the last few firmware updates as I'm not big in to multitasking so have no real problems. I'd like the P1i or the W960 when out but can't justify the cost over what it gives over the P990i at the moment.

I'll also be getting the P990 in 2 months despite all the problems people have reported. Not being a heavy user and no need to multitask I think l'll live with the P990.My main usage includes:
Web browsin, music, movies and e-mail(not all these at the same time off-course)
