Sorry for disappearing guys but I'm on holiday and don't get to the internet as often as I should.

There is absolutely no question that the keys are covered with stickers. This is how the light shines through to show the letters/numbers and because two of my keys are damaged, the backlight now shines through at those points. Contrary to my and obviously many of your expectations, the keys are NOT solid plastic with the letters/numbers moulded in clear plastic all the way through the key as in computer keyboards. My scraped off bits of stickers are on the top left corners of the Q/W and A/S keys. When I run my finger nails along the outer edges of many of the keys I can definitely feel a very slight edge where the sticker meets the key. Why not have a feel of yours (!!!) and let me know what you find?

Oh yes! I can feel an edge and looking under a bright light I can see it too. Are all SE phones like this? I can't see these stickers staying on for too long.

They are very thick, not stickers in the sense you're probably looking for. they don't go right to the very edge of the keys though so under a bright light you can see them.

Are you sure the keys aren't 'attached/on' a thin rubber membrane which is held in place by the front fascia? It's possible that you've ripped the key away from the membrane whilst removing the case from your handset, possibly giving you the impression that the keys are covered by stickers?

You got it into a case (that it wasn't designed to be used with) and therefore put it in a situation that it obviously isn't designed to be in - hardly makes the quality 'lousy', does it?

hmmmm pretty good build on my phone thus far... solid, no creaking battery cover at all... the front case is solid... the only creaking is one of the left keys... but it's not consistent..

Hehe. This thread is almost as funny as the.. 'owmygawd I broke the keys on my new phone after testing it a bit by hammering on them with my nails - WHAT A LOUSY BUILD SE SUCKS SO MUCH!'.

Really, why not just say you want phones that never break, work flawlessly and need no updates, and wil last for twenty years, instead?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the quality is poor. All I am trying to say to you guys is that a sticker (it may be very thick but it is still a sticker which can be damaged, whether by trying the wrong case or just through carelessness) is used for the keys and they are not like the keys on your PC keyboard. Unfortunately, I am now in the position of having keys with light shining through where it shouldn't! I can just see that I will be bringing my phone into an SE centre the next time I go to Singapore (fixed and returned in 2 hours unlike London) to get it fixed.

Enjoy your P1. I certainly am! Just shows what a piece of junk the P990 is! Anyone want a P990???

@gseh

Post a picture of the light shining through so everyone can clearly see what you mean.

Here are 2 photos showing the light shining through on the Q/W and A/S keys. The stickers were pulled away by the leather case and nothing harder. I'm still kicking myself for being so careless but believe me, it didn't take much to pull off the corners.

I've never done this before so hope the photos come out alright.
