Pretty good that
will the 02 iPhone be unlocked though I mean I don't personally want 1, but I wouldn't mind having a play with one

how on earth did you arrive at the conclusion that i had to own something to know what that something is like? have you never heard of the internet?
here are some valid reasons:
-unable to send sms to more than 1 recepient
-touch sensitive screen
-a high percentage of reports of poor reception, earpiece quality, and call quality
-threaded sms
-poor camera(although this isn't really a deal breaker for me, but just adds to its many drawbacks)
-no customised ringtones. in fact, virtually everything is restricted.
-it's £300 too expensive.
"but the fact they sold 1m units recently"
i wonder why that was. it wasn't because of it's capabilities or value for money, that's for sure. it sold 1m on the basis on hype and apples so-called reputation.
it's a glorified fashion phone, and no more.

@Brightspark
You can't believe everything you read on the Internet and fair enough if you don't like or want an iPhone no one is going to force you to own one are they.
But very obviously a lot of people seem very interested in owning one as is their choice to make. However you look at the iPhone it has been and is a very successful product.
Much like the N95 if it really was as bad as many make it out to be i doubt either product would be selling in as large numbers as they do. Freedom of choice is what it is all about and what's great for some just isn't for others.

Based on it's tech spec and price, I don't NEED to have seen or used one, or have been within 100 feet of it.
It's lacking things we haven't seen missing for even the most BASIC phones for over 3 years. So therefore, what makes it worth £269? I mean realistically, I, nor anyone with half a brain, would pay a £269 premium to make it 'easier to use'.
@missuk, no it'll be locked, for the first time in O2's history (apart from the early XDA's, even my Cocoon is unlocked!).

Yeah, hate to burst the bubble but I'd say about 80% of the N95's we've sold in both the shops in our town were to people who will never use the vast majority of features, and when questioned about the reason for their purchase it's either a) because it's cool, b) because they were recommended it by a friend, c) it's a Nokia therefore 'easy to use' in their eyes or d) because they think a 5MP camera is a must buy thing, even though they then follow it up with the statement "i don't use my phone camera much".
Idiots the lot of them, but I just grin and bear it, make the sell and take the commission thank you very much

If I do, it won't be a pleasant experience I can say that much. I've already seen some rich show-off git of a customer flashing one he got from the USA in our shop, I just rolled my eyes, yawned and walked off (stick that in your pipe and smoke it, lol

).
I suspect the day before they come in, but other than telling everyone what they alredy know I'll have no inside info as such. Then again, why bother. Like I've said before, I'm going to openly slate it to customers like I did, and still do, to the N95.

one very big and major factor that has been largedly overlooked to explain exactly why the iPhone, the n95, and many other phones sell well....
........marketing.
it doesn't really matter if the quality is crap, the gullible general public will buy it anyway.
"its apple, it's got to be well made", "its a great smartphone"(according to King Jobs in june), "im n apple fnboy an ill by anyfink wiv da apple logo on it cuz apple r da bom. us apple gys r mroe inteligant thn ordinery ppl so we now whts best an cool"....and other such reasons and myths.
the most important question yet to be asked about the iPhone is asked in this video:
