If it is firmware problem, your comp won't detect your phone. Use xs++,press & hold C button while connecting the phone to comp.xs++ will detect the phone. IMO

. In fortunately he might be "lucky" to get his phone recognized and repaired. But even if it is recognized from XS++, flashing it won't make any difference if the EROM is damaged... Damaged EROM can be repaired from free using DCU60 cable only with Wotan (as far as I'm informed)... For flashing EROM with some other software you will need service cable...
