The main reason that this theory has been ridiculed over the years is because it is often quoted as a solution to the various paradoxes which reinforce the impossibility of time travel into the past.

This is slightly unfair because there's plenty of evidence against past-time travel already, the theory of parallel universes is actually a completely separate and unrelated hypothesis.

And it makes a lot of sense. There's lots of things that happen in atom smashers that cannot be explained satisfactorily with currently proved theories but fit nicely into the parallel universe mathematical models.

It's just like entanglement. Nobody is suggesting that it'll ever be possible to teleport a human being or communicate faster than the speed of light because there are other laws forbidding such actions. Similarly, nobody is suggesting that we will be able to hop from one universe to another.

Then again, time dilation was never successfully proved in Einstein's (it's discoverer's) lifetime because the technology to demonstrate and measure it accurately enough wasn't available until about 30 years later so who knows...

So your saying it could be possible to "hop from one universe to another?"

Yup! 'fraid so matey

At least, the 'science for people with an IQ of less than 60 like Cycovision' websites I've read said so

It sure is cool but its not possible. There cant be two of you at the same time. Its like you're leaving a fragment of yourself behind every second? Pahleez!

Why not? Its you but in a diffrent reality which has a fair amount of hard science backing it up. It may very well be possible.

Because the implications would be horrendous. What if Hitler is still alive in a parallel universe and his scientists find a way to jump him and his (now mega powerful) armies sequentially into each possible scenario where he lost the war?

Like time travel into the past, it's one of the arguments as to why such 'hops' must be impossible. Why haven't we seen travelers from a parallel universe yet? Or have we...?

There was some story about some dude called John somthing who states he came from the future. He said (if i remember correctly) that there would be a world war 3 and there would be no more olympics after the recent winter ones. Now there talking about boycotting Chinas ones! Hopefuly thats just a coincidence lol. I find this stuff facinating.

(It would be intresting to see a parralel universe were Alexander the great never died so young, but when you look at all the bad things such as hitler, as you said, its scary)

I also heard it is currently more possible to go to the future then the past which is quite intresting imo.

Come on people, this is just a theory to explain chaotic behaviour of unobservable particles. They are hoping to say "Uh, well, let's say that this theoretical particle is here on Universe A, and there on Universe B", and save themselves from the trouble of finding out where the particle really is. That's what i read out of it.

Time travel into the future is possible and has been proved, but it doesn't happen in the 'classic' sense...

Very simply, If you get into a spaceship and orbit the earth at a very high speed (near the speed of light), time will slow down for you, but not for everybody on earth watching you. For them, it stays the same.

This means that, for example, if you spend one year orbiting the earth at x thousand miles per hour, ten years will actually pass on earth

So when you land, you'll find yourself 10 years into the future instead of 1!

Cool innit? They proved this by loading an atomic clock onto a jet plane and flying as fast as they could for as long as they could. When they landed, they compared the on-board atomic clock with an identical, previously syncronised atomic clock on the ground. Sure enough, the clocks weren't in sync anymore and the tiny time difference between them was exactly as Einstein's theory predicted, even taking errors and engineering tolerances into account.
