Interesting, although I have a feeling that direct support for microSD in the K850i is limited to 2GB. I'm personally going to wait to see what performance is like when you have a memory card of that size or even a 4GB M2 before I buy one.
why wouldn't it? SD architecture supports up to 32GB, why would SE artifically limit the SD capacity? Doesn't make sense they would offer SD at all if they want to force us to use M2?

They're not forcing you to use M2 unless you want to put in a 4GB card. And it wouldn't be the first time SE have limited something when the hardware is there.

who said you can't use 4GB microSD? You said you have a "feeling" it won't support larger than 2GB. On what do you base this feeling? Because to my mind I can't see any reason why it won't support microSD larger than 2GB.
I agree SE and most OEM's have at some time limited hardware. But as I said, why would SE even offer microSD support if they want to force you to use M2??

@ max_wedge
Actually it's not SD cards that support up to 32GB it's SDHC cards that do and there is s big difference. You can not even use a normal card reader for SD cards built into computers to read them you need a special SDHC reader. But the fact that SE have given the K850 SDHC support is a great move as 6GB cards are already available for about £40 and the 8GB cards are expected any time soon with even larger cards expected next year .

Sorry, I meant SDHC. SDHC architecture supports up to 32GB. Also, SD cards can be read in SDHC devices so you don't have to throw away existing microSD cards. (but you do have to buy new card readers)
I find it interesting that Sony is often critisiced for bringing out new formats, yet the MS Pro format, which has been out for a while now, (msp, msdp, m2) all support up to 32GB with full forwards and backwards compatibility.

max_wedge, I seem to remember reading it somewhere. Can't remember where. Or it might have been the SE rep that told me when I tested the proto. Saying that, it was the same guy that said it recorded at VGA and triggered that debate.

Ah, okay I think we can safely ignore that guy!
I never really believed it, since all proto video I've seen from K850 is qvga.

@Max
Although all these Sony formats have been around for quite a while now and theoretically support up to 32GB why is it so far we haven't seen any above 8GB?
Micro SDHC has been around a much shorter time and they have already launched 6GB cards with 8 GB not far away and the promise of 16GB or 32GB cards next year. Yet the Sony cards still seem to be stuck @8GB maybe this is why SE are now starting to incorporate SDHC in their devices as it looks like they will offer larger capacities first.

Maybe, time will tell. But So far Sandisk have been coming out with matching capacities for SD and MS. The reason MS hasn't reached 32GB is because the technology isn't available yet for making the cards small enough at the larger capacities. But the architecture supports up to 32GB, so as the manufacturing technology improves, nothing else needs to be changed to support the new cards. ie: existing devices will support the new memory.
This has been true from 128MB up to 8GB so far, I see no reason that 16 and 32GB MS memory won't be compatible with standard MS Pro cards (standard, msdp and m2). Yet the SD format ran out of steam at 2GB.
The fact is, sandisk are the leading developer of memory cards, and it's their work that pushes the envelope of capacities at smaller and smaller package sizes. Because of this MS and SD capacities will always be on par, since they are all based on the same miniturisation technology that Sandisk develops to make ever larger capacities available in the same or smaller size packages.
