8MP is MUCH too much. 5MP is too much. who cares what the resolution is like. it's only the quality that matters and nothing else. its betetr to have a good quality 3.2MP camera than an equally good quality 8MP camera. think about it - what use is the extra size other than cropping and printing? a downside is that the file size of the 8MP pics will be significantly larger, with little or no practical gain.

there really isn't any need for it. it's just a marketing ploy and nothing more.

Mr&Mrs Gullible go to CPW to buy a phone for their little johnny.

CPW: hello sir. maam. how can i help?

Mr Gullibles: hi. i'm looking for a phone for my son, but i don't know where to start looking.

CPW: well, we now have this excellent new moto recently added to our stock, and it features a stunning 8 megapixel camera

Mr Gullibles: hmmmm. i'm not too sure what that means in real terms. how does it compare with other cameras out there? i know our johnny would like a nice camera.

CPW: well, most cameraphones on the market feature a 3.2MP camera, with a few offering 5MP. this phone is a massive step up from all those currently on the market. so if you compare it with an 8MP, the 8MP phone produces significantly higher quality pictures on account of its much greater resolution.

Mr Gullible: *turns to his wife* so what do you think then, Peach? it certainly sounds like we've found the best camera on the market from what the salesman says. if the salesman says its good it must be good. these people know more about cameras and phones than we'll ever know. i'm sure johnny would like it.
Mrs Gullible: the price seems ok. ok, love, lets take it.

The pics have been blurred, but the pics on the presentation weren't that clear either

Aren't we supposed to be all happy that Motorola come up with SKARVEN, an 8 megapixel smartphone. Whether 8 megapixel is too much or not, still another great technological leap.
I think some of the people here are just bitter because their beloved cellphone manufacturer won't be releasing a similar phone anytime soon. Will they ever release one? HaHa....

Forget the 8 M pixels, i think it's the optical zoom feature on this camera that makes it stand out from the crowd. Isn't it about time came out with an optical zoom as standard on high end phones, it would be great on the K850i, which would become the K850z.

"The information about upcoming high megapixel Motorola camera phones keeps leaking piece by peace. We first heard about 5 megapixel Motorola/ Kodak cameraphone back in October. Then, few weeks ago, the existence of 5 mpx Motorola handset was confirmed by Motorola Spain."

lol....honestly..some people dont get it.

8mp is a gimmick...and a huge battery and space hog. nothing more

unless your going to have a mobile phone with a much much bigger lens, then even 3.2mp is more than enough for a phone..

go buy a bloody camera if you want a proper 8mp shot, as you sure aint going to get it from a motorola phone...or any other mobile phone for that matter

What's with the camera phone hating? Maybe people don't like lugging a phone + an 8MP camera in their pockets and they'd rather have an all-in-one device. No shit it won't be as good as dedicated cams, but it's decent. And it'd probably be cheaper as well. Phone+Dedicated MP3 Player+ Dedicated 8MP camera is gonna cost a hefty as hell penny.
