I personally would recommend getting a T39m. They were small and light yet still had things like bluetooth.

It will support more than that if you cahnge the cradle and in most cases the lead to the cradle too. I have used one with a S700i before.

The holder is for a T28, t29 or T39. The kit as a whole is most likely an HCA-10.
I agree. I've fitted plenty of those.

The possibilities seems endless to a large extent
is it just a matter of changing a few wires and cradle
Put yourselves in my shoes never done anything like this before.
What are the pitfalls?
The T39M is still an option and is easily available in Hong Kong, so it seems

What do you want to achieve?
The HCA-10 is ancient as far as mobile technology is concerned. You may happily use it with a 'retro' Ericsson phone for the novelty value, or you can hunt out the cradle that matches the F500i. It will quite simply attach to the bracket that mounts the existing cradle and the existing Aerial cable will plug into it, but you'll need a new System Cable to match the new cradle.
When/If you purchase a new
phone, I'd recommend you update to a HCA-60 hardwired or HCB-700 Bluetooth carkit. Only the microphone and speaker will carry over to the new generation kit.
Sony MEX-BT2500 or MEX-BT5000 A2DP (Bluetooth Stereo) head units with built in Carkit are also an option.
