I sometimes use the Scene's key (second from the left) and keep pressing it till it gets to Document. It enables macro for you

Switching to document scene sharpens the image. It will make the text more readable. But other than texts, I think that document scene mode is not advisable. I too, uses the macro mode more often than the timer.
