I got asked if I wanted them to installa 1gb usb stick on my pc for £30. The stick was about £10. I said that I thought that I could handle plugging it into a usb slot.

£50 to install a PC is outrageous there easy to set-up yourself as they come with instructions.

When it comes to Eldary folk yes shops see them coming and try to get them to buy the most expensive product rather then the cheaper 1 bit like that Program on BBC "Rogue Traders"

I once went into my local PC World intending on buying the Full XP PC World actually told me not to buy it as it was expensive, they told me to contact ACER for my Missing reset disk which took months to come lol

in the end I had to buy a copy of eBay,
but PC World are not all cowboys, I applied for a Job with them didn't think i'd get but I was truely honest with them and couple months later I had a letter saying they would keep my details if any jobs were to arrise

It's the after sales service bit that I object to the most. If you've paid extra for technical support then you should get EFFECTIVE technical support, not some gimp telling you to ring virgin media.

This is her first ever computer, she's never even used a typewriter much before so the chances of her solving even simple problems over the phone are minimal.

Sure, it's not the tech guys job to show her how to use a PC but this WAS a technical problem in my eyes at least and she was under the impression that they would come out to her home for it. Apparently not...
