just to add a bit on opera. i have tried wm6 internet explorer, tried net front and even opera on tytn ii and i find opera on this p990i my fav no problem at all. now i am anxiously waiting for w960 to replace.

I find the add-on Opera on P900/P910 the best... Though the P990 one has some extra's...

@Nipsen,

What kind of dope are you smoking, and is SE paying for it?

"Stability. Uptimes for an uiq3 system has been documented several times around three weeks"

My P910i can manage MONTHS - Most people with P990i / P1i reboot daily and some last longer, but it will go down if left on for long periods with apps running. Hardly that good, is it?

P.S. I wasn't going to respond, but my friend Ares prompted me .......

sorry mate. the only spot you hit is your own mouth.

anyway, it is fun to read how UIQ3 users gloat about an OS with maybe 1+ million units sold as the "best and greatest". This is against the likes of s60v3 with something like 50+ million units sold or WM5 with 10+ million.

Are you being payed by SE to write this?
lol (if not, you should)

It's possible I wasn't entirely serious. Look, I'm just so tired of the threads that say "this is my opinion, and I should be treated as if I bring facts - nay, revelations from the gods. And I will smite anyone who remotely disagrees with the fundamental truth". Such as... whether UIQ is awesome, or just superior to everything else in all respects... :|

But it's still opinion masquerading as facts, more or less, even if some of these things are true (for a pretty high value of teapot). Still - it's perfectly possible to like WM much better than UIQ, even though it doesn't have a very good copy and paste function.. right?

Well,
I'm happy of this positive attitude
and the idea,
Especially that it was "correct" to b...ch about P990.
I must say that with some things which could be improved - absolutely -
I'm very content UiQ user,
Even after some experiments with some UI apps I find UiQ3 as effective
and functional tool (I mean I didn't find a strong reason to use GDesk different than playing with the amazing app)
Personally also believe that a real P990 upgrade will bring improvements in the fields I'm interested.
Of course S60 has also strong points without any doubt.
For me also the touch screen - very developed indeed - is very strong point of UiQ and of decisive factors with buying all of my SE's (P800, P910 and P990).
As for P990, I can only repeat that it's rock stable, now it's not worse that P910 in any way. Reliable tool.
But as I said, some things could be improved, and probably will be.
I just hope that next P will be still business oriented.

Let me throw in my .02. Just because the sheepish masses buy into something does not make it a superior product nor does it make it king of the hill. Yes there maybe millions using a particular os but that has more to do with marketing and availability of said os. Case in point everyone and their mother owns an ipod, hell ipod is so popular that people often refer to any mp3 as an ipod rather than an mp3 player. But that doesnt mean that ipods are the best most people who are into high end mp3 players will tell you that the ipods offer a crappy sonic experience and are at best ok when compared to other players not to mention that they lacked a radio and you had to use itunes or some other app to convert. Im in no way saying that wm or s60 is a bad os but you cant say that its great simply because most people have it. Besides your average cel phone buyer is not very aware of the fact that their are os options out there, they just take the phones that thier provider offers.

@nipsen: Nice topic, a bit exagerated but that's what it was meant to be right?

@kradcliffe: well, can only speak for myself but an uptime of weeks is nothing strange for me. I reboot every now and then for different reasons (making a backup, being at a funeral or something) but stability is not one of them. I DO use a number of third party apps so it seems to be able to handle them pretty well, memory usage stays pretty much fixed at a certain level (with plenty of ram free).

@mib1800: Larger sales doesn't necessarily mean a better product now does it. S60 simply has a way larger range of products and also in the lower price ranges. UIQ3 mainly only has the P- and M-series carrying a pretty hefty price tag for most, Nokia poops out phones like a madman (nothing wrong with that btw) and has the better advertisement on this area (N73, N95 and many more) leading to larger sales.

All in all, hard to say if one would be better then the other. After having owned both the N73 and now the P1i (and the P910 before the N73) I have had a taste of both and both are perfectly fine. The N73 was stable for me as well and worked just fine. Structure is different ofcourse but both are easy to get used to. S60 3rd has the advantage of the large software support, UIQ3 the advantage of touchscreen and both are very good products.

It's for a large part about the user and his or her taste (as is clear again and again in the threads).

yeah..yeah I heard all this before. (like win is shit osx is king)

But we have indirect TANGIBLE evidence like is that S60 is very successful. Can't say that about UIQ3. Another TANGIBLE indirect evidence is that WM/S60 have gazillions 3rd party software support whereas UIQ3...well you figure.

And you want to compare technical merit? How? Based on what? ( Based on the existence of copy-paste function? ) But I dont think any of us have in-depth collective knowledge of UIQ3/S60/WM to make this comparison to any meaningful conclusion based on technical merit.
