read this:
http://my-symbian.com/uiq3/faq/showquestion.php?fldAuto=10&faq=1
now heres the official product sheet
http://www.nxp.com/acrobat_download/literature/9397/75015411.pdf
it says there:
The audio subsystem combines a
fully dedicated DSP (digital signal processor) with integrated digital-analog converters (DACs) and analog-digital converters (ADCs). The audio DSP can operate independently from the ARM CPU and can reference embedded RAM memories for full audio flexibility. For stereo sound, there are two integrated stereo DACs and one stereo ADC. There are also two PCM interfaces, carrying 8- or 16-kHz sample-rate voice channels.

I didn't know that.
I guess mobile-review was wrong, in their W960 review, they said:
"In fact, with no dedicated audio chips on offer, Sony Ericsson risks ending up on the skirts of the market."

Thank you for pointing that out, now I know better.
However, I still don't think its good enough to warrant such expensive canal phones such as the Shure SE530.

My previous post just points out the misleading infos and preconceptions regarding SE UIQ 3 phone's Nexperia CPU. actually if we take a look at the time P990 was announced, the S60 phones specifically the N-series don't actually have 3D accelerator as well as a dedicated DSP chip embedded inside the CPU instead, Nokia installed a separate audio chip on N91 to boost it's audio quality to the far extent that until now it's the best in sound quality
so by that time P990 was very advanced, it's just the thing that SE did not make their job better that's why P990 was left out of date when it's released
However, I still don't think its good enough to warrant such expensive canal phones such as the Shure SE530.
sure it's not worth it

Correct me if I'm interpreting wrongly; so what you're saying is that SE should have ditched the built in DSP, bypassed it and implemented their own DSP chip like Nokia did, correct?
What's that "
" smiley supposed to mean eh?
Once you get used to expensive DACs and Amps, trust me, you'll agree that such a canal phone would be under utilized with just a W960. The Shure SE530 deserves a better companion. The $$$ for the canal phones is better spent elsewhere if its not gonna be used to its full potential.
Just IMHO, YMMV.
