I've just changed for a K810i.
I had stuff on the M2, and the 8Gb M2 shows up with just under 7GB, so it looks like the K810i reports it correctly.
I have yet to get M3 working satisfactorily, but the prospect of storing a couple of movies on something the size of your fingernail is something to look forward to!

I've just noticed that Available Stick Memory is only misreported in 'Phone Status'. If you go into File Manager and 'Memory Status', you see the Actual remaining capacity.

Tested on K550, K800 and K810.

I don't know if this answers both questions...

My K810 was on R6.
I have now flashed it to R8 via SEUS.

Phone status showed 4095MB free
Memory Status in File Manager showed 6924MB

I deleted a bunch of old photos, so now...
Phone status shows 4095MB free
Memory Status in File Manager shows 6935MB

Apart from misreporting memory in phone status, the handset is quite happy with the 8GB

well put some BIG files in other, on memory stick. try to put 7,5GB in other folder.

You two are K850 users, i bet that K850 does reckognise them doesnt it?
SE says, that K850 supports up to 32 GB sticks !

I have been using a 4GB Sandisk M2 on my K800i since before cristmas last year, and mostly, there are no problems, but I have noticed a few odd things with the phone that has never occurred before, and it may be related to the memory stick:

Once, I lost all my email settings, and the saved emails in each account folder (See this post).
Sometimes, when I have watched a movie or displayed an animated GIF file, some elements in the theme are corrupted and I have to re-apply the theme in order to restore the images.
I sometimes use the phone for listening to audio books. Sometimes, when I unpause the player after a pause, it does not start from where it was paused, but several minutes before or after that position. The keyboard has been locked at these occasions, so it cannot be caused by accidental touches of the keyboard.
When connecting the phone to the computer using the USB cable, the phone drives do not always come up visible in the computer. In these cases, I have to unplug the USB, wait for the phone to reboot, and re-connect. Most of the times, the drives do come up then.


I know that the K800i model nowadays is considered a bit old, and according to its whitepaper it only supports 2GB memory sticks. But according to the whitepapers of newer models, those models only support 1GB cards, and still, both 2GB's and 4GB's are reported to function.

I think it is merely a numeric overflow bug in the memory space counter. 1 GB is represented as 40000000 in hexadecimal, 1000000000000000000000000000000 binary, ie using 31 bits. The 32nd bit is normally used as a sign (+/-) indicator, but can be used if the variable is declared as an unsigned integer. In that case, the biggest possible value that can be represented with the integer is FFFFFFFF hex, i.e 4GB - 1. If the software that calculates the memory size does not use double precision integers (64 bit representation), the counter will restart at 0 when it passes 4GB. Consequently, if you fill your big M2 more than half, the counter will show the correct value of free memory.
