the itm file is actuall a TAR archive with an xml file that specifies the icon and the command to run (including the java app details if using a java app). The itm file also includes the icon itself.

The xml file includes java app values:
These values can be obtained from the java program's JAD file if you have it, or from the manifest file within the java app itself. Java apps can be unpacked with winrar.

MIDlet-1: Opera Mini 1.20, /icon.png, Browser
MIDlet-Vendor: Opera Software ASA

The non-obvious one is "javasuitepoint", which corresponds to the information after the last comma in "Midlet-1"

no, itm files cannot seem to reference built in features, only webpages or java apps

Give it a go by all means but I've had no luck with it myself.
