To many ridiculous questions I agree; but smart ones like, like comparing updates on S60 & WM phones that not only fix bugs but also add features - and UIQ's team just answers like (what our clients choose to add or do with there phones are entirely up to them).?? WTF?!
Its like UIQ doesn't want to grow their client base ...
*nods* It's really strange. I mean, the pr dude said.. on the uiqblog Q&A.. that they might want to push for making their licensees allow more customisation on the user- level. I mean, where does that come from. They have the development profile on UIQ that's supposed to be open, so that anyone should be able to use it. But they still allow SE exclusive use of some apis, as well as manage to allow them to run some background- apps the user cannot control, that does have an impact on how the OS performs. And now it's evident that SE will turn towards more phone- company exclusive services, and UIQ are targeting more companies for "partnership".
We can see this now with the Opera 9 crap - suddenly UIQ owns the builds for UIQ - and therefore SE directly controls which units will ever have the browser installed - if they're ever going to have it at all.
The same with Symbian signed - the concept is completely understandable, and it makes perfect sense. But in practice - since the apis are not generally well documented, or not available, it turns into a way to restrict development on the platform, in some misguided attempt from SE (and UIQ, by sheer neglect of the issue) to gain exclusivity to certain types of programs. Programs which they cannot even manage to fix serious, but relatively easy faults with - let alone construct in a way that looks more structured than your average mikado- game.
Which is all simply contradicting the entire point with UIQ, making it nothing special whatsoever - it simply makes it an average, not very good looking UI that's constantly lagging behind in terms of including.. such things as svg tiny 1.2, for vastly improving the efficiency of drawing graphics, as well as making it easier to program relatively complex animations with few clock- cycles of preparation - to general usability programs like functioning scheduler options that can be customised and interact with profiles, with themes, etc.
Couple that with SE's fetish for hard- coding options into specific view- screens for every smallest little thing, and you really have the ideal definition of average, always failing to make use of even what they should have control over. So far from "innovation" as it can possibly be.

Amen!!
Does seem that the whole system of development has lost its' way - leading to, as you say, a lack of freedom for independant developers, thus a lack of innovation, and so a very 'average' user experience.
For dog's sake, this platform should be brilliant - completely customisable, with the ability for each individual user to tailor the system's functionality to his/her needs.
I truly hope Android will be as good as google claims.......maybe that will live up to its' pottential.

As I saw this thread too late and could post a question.
One that I wanted to ask was .... "Do all, or what percentage, of UIQ's developers use a UIQ based phone as a primary or exclusive handset?"
* If he couldn't comment, or if they say a few developers from UIQ use UIQ handsets, yet many others use other handsets of differing OS'/platforms ... then I'd have reason to worry the direction that UIQ is going.
* Almost 80% of RIM employees around the world use a Blackberry as a primary device. About 60% of Nokia employees in Europe use S60 based phones; even their CEO's we've seen publicly mention that they can use the features of the S60 to get specific online information they needed! Can the same be said for Motorola, UIQ, or SE ?? Doubtful.
If they did then we'd see UIQ encouraging SE and other manufacturers allowing more tweakability in their OS based phones from clients. Because they'd be intimately involved in feedback stating that it would be beneficial for users to be able to do This/That. Hopefully Motorola's partnership will smack some sense into them.

He didnt really give an answer to Mizzles question regarding the speed of UIQ vs S60.
Is UIQ destined to be sluggish compared to S60?

UIQ may be slower than S60 but its speed is more consistent. Every s60 phone I've used has become more and more sluggish over time. With the same useage, my p1i still behaves exactly as it did on day 1.

I don't believe I asked about that
I only asked if UIQ would be present at CeBIT.
