Yeah but thats not to say they can't make it smaller. Surely the wire inside can be folded over several times so it can be stored into a more compact attachment?

because if it's folded up then it's only equivalent to the length of the fold. For example if the length of one loop of the folded aerial is 1 cm, than you get reception equivalent to a 1cm aerial.

It has to be stretched out to get the benefit of the better reception.

btw, folding will not reduce the reception as much as the gain from the extra length, but by the time you have a long enough piece of wire to compensate for the folding, you have a big bundle that takes up a lot of precious real estate inside the phone.

Bluetooth and GSM and 3G use much shorter wavelength frequencies and therefore shorter aerials can be used.

I found the idea quite laughable. I mean why would I be carrying around a stick in my pocket rather than a pair of headphones. That's more comfortable IMO; but that's just my idea.

@chamak
Is that an FM antenna in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?

yep very disappointing if using BT stereo you have no arial.

even sillier wearing cans with 3 meter cable tucked into my clothing WITH BT stereo (HBH DS2020). still no radio.

i think i've seen an adapter to 3.5mm jack somewhere.
