Um, I think the reason for the portrait-only mode and lack of camera key is that the camera is situated on the sliding part and is unusable while the phone is closed.

Well perhaps i got a bit excited about nothing really its not as good as i first thought. The only thing i guess i like is the way you can change the main menus but you can do that in C702 & C902. I think that part looks good. The camera part being horizontal on the inside part of the slide reminds me of Samsung camera phones. OH NO.

I don't understand what SE's thinking of their Walkman phones.
First, they eliminated AF, macro and flash from camera.
That's what makes Cyber-shot phones sell. Marketing strategy, segment differentiation.
Now, they changed the camera interface from landscape to portrait.
They did it on W580 too in case you didn't notice.
Also, Walkman phone doesn't get good speakers.
The W550 age is over long long time ago. Still, speaker is not a big deal. Brand is.
Even it getting worse: no video call camera!
For what? You never video-call me. LOL
The question is: what's the advantage of getting/buying Walkman phone now?
Who cares. People out there will buy them. I know, neither you nor me is one of the crowd.
We still can get good music from other series such as Cyber-shot (K850 that has MegaBass), with the proper headset of course.
You can get good music experienced from the old-yet-feature-rich K750i.
For GPS we can get it from C702 that has better camera than W760.
SE want people buy both and they are on top 3 playes in 2010. Help them to success.
C'mon SE, bring back the Walkman to the W800 and W900 era.
Oughh.... I miss our old days. Really.
Sorry for my poor English. Wish me luck.

No. Both W850 and W910 are enable landscape mode.
Why does W760 have portrait mode only for camera UI?? Because it's successor to W580. IMVVVVHO.

@WhiteEye
What NightBlade meant is that W760 is more like W580, with the lens covered by the back cover when slide closed. So if you want to take pictures, you have to slide it open. Therefore,
maybe it will feel awkward to take pictures horizontally like that with the phone's slide open.
Different things with W850 and W910 cause they can take pics in
closed slides.

This phone is mid-end, like most of

latest phones, so please don't judge it as if it's a high-end phone, even though it has GPS.

I think that the camera UI either should have been the Cyber-shot one with a camera key placed on the side. That's not hard to do. Or they should've made a Portrait version of the Cyber-shot UI. I just can't like a phone made in 2008 where ancestry from a 4 year old phone (K700i) is evident.
