There was widespread report a few years back that people were getting phones taken off them when entering Cuba....

Bad move if you ask me, my life would be so so so much simpler without my mobile.

i don't think that's true! they didn't took any phone from visitors! i was there on holiday back in 2003, and only "rich" cubans had mobile phones!
when i was using mine all the people stared at me, because only the tourists could have mobile phones...even doctors didn't have mobile phones!
and yes it was a pity that wonderful people like the cubans didn't had the chance to use this wonderful technology

I went to Cuba in November, and nothing mentioned about taking mobiles more any electronic gadgets from visitors. I sat on the beach with both an Ipod and Mobile, and there is plenty of security around to stop me but nothing said.

There were plenty of mobiles being used around Havana, having said that tourists were the main users, but many residents were using them.

Pity I didn't take a few with me to sell!
