Yeah I've been taught that often its better and cheaper to just buy a new PAYG sim from the overseas operator and use that instead. Its still cheaper even after texting everyone your new number.

Saw this on Watchdog a couple of weeks ago and all the charges were either reduced or totally removed.

If people try to contact you while you was on holiday and your phone was switched on and rang but you didnt answer
You are charged for the phone to say to the network you are not there and then yo are charged for bouncing the call back to your home network.
So you are charged a inbound cost 75p
You call is then bounced back to the uk 99p (79p prefered network)
and then you retreive your message 99p (79p prefered network) per min
Dont forget Voda charged per min as well.
So if you were on the phone for 1min and 1 second. You are charged for a 2 min call.
You can switch your voice mail of, however Like me when im abroad i set my own divert up which will divert all calls to voice mail regardless, which will mean that i dont pay a inbound and a rebound charge.
The only charge i get is for listening my messages.
Regarding Text charges
Texting on Voda is 35p per sms.
Hope that explaines your question
