That looks great for what you do, however 8 years ago their build quality weren't that great. They probably have solved that issue now!

Even two years ago ( january 2006 when I bought an Acer aspire) they still had crappy build quality. 6 months later I sold that Acer and am not going to buy an Acer anymore.

Oooh EMS06,

I had the Travelmate 521TEV, was around the region of £1499 from currys at the time. After 6 months down the line my laptop had the notorious fat 32 blue screener, this continued many times after various trips to and from 'master care'. Then 10 months came and saw the first physical breakage, the plastic near the power cord broke off and exposed the metallic skeleton which had 18v current running through it.

You can imagine, everytime I charged the laptop I got a shock, maybe it was gods doing!

Hold your horses! Do NOT buy from PC World. Their policy is to open all boxes, check whats inside then put their own security seal on it. My friend works in a PC World and tells me that they sell used goods as new and you cannot tell because the box is opened anyway. Also, they have swapped bits and bobs from different stock.

I got a router from there and there was no CD or wires! They said I had lost it plus, the manufacturers would not cock up like that. My friend refunded me otherwise I would have been screwed. When their security seal is broken and you want to return it, they can blame everything on you.

badassmam,

You could conjure up an elaborate excuse like, the router is faulty or take up their 'no lemon' refund policy!!!

@drlau9
£1 499 and you get
what you got?!
Ouch! I paid £800
for the aspire,
almost half what
you paid for. Two
and a half months
down the line the
thing started
peeling off and the
charger charged
when it was in the
mood. After getting
rid of it I went
back to my Hp
desktop until I
bought an hp
laptop last year.
Last month I
bought a dell
inspiron 1720 and it
made me realised
how so so the hp
laptop build quality
is. I don't mean to
sing the dell
praises but it
deserves all the
praises. I've
actually resolved to
buy from dell as
from now on.

Yeah £1499 for something as useful as a bog roll, just thought it was the pentium III causing all the heat issues, oh well. I did think on buying a dell but bought a Toshiba A30 after that, the Toshiba is still here, it's a satellite. I believe this is it's 5 year running and had only two minor repairs.

Half way since I owned the Toshiba, I was tempted in getting the Dell XPS 13" / MSI gaming laptop / Alienware Area 51 at the end I settled for the Alienware didn't look back!!! Build quality was ace, it was a bit bulky but it had 2 processors it was and still is the dogs danglies!! it can play most up to date games like crysis, COD4 (top settings) etc.

For portability I use a Macbook now, has been going strongly even after a few mods, like my signature on the glowing apple (top lid), hdd swap to 320gb, ram 4gb.

In all honesty there are two people (and probably more) who thinks acer could do with using better quality materials externally!

Hey, everything
worked out fine,
even if it was after
£1 499. Alienware is
good, also came up
as an option when I
purchased the dell.
I'm hoping to
replace my hp
(notebook) towards
the end of the year,
my sister's been
nagging me about
giving it to her. The
Xps 15" is definitely
my next acquisition.
