Why are SE so slow at bringing out phones. Also i dont really see that many smartphones from them other companies throw them out so fast ya cant keep up whereas SE take a year just to announce something.

Man this is shocking!

Imagine the amount of money they wouldve spent developing the p5i. Not good market news...

They probably calculated the loss to be a lot more if they released the p5 and beibei, 'cos not a whole lot of people will be too happy about buying 'rehashed' phones.

I think their top stuff is going to be in the Xperia line now. X1 being top dog at the moment. Perhaps SE is working on a UIQ-Xperia device to be released sometime after the X1.

Yeah, that keeps the point alive... It would be nice to have xperia-like phone with 5mp camera (or better) running windows mobile...

Simply put, if SE's flag ship is to be a WM, than it would be goodbye SE for me. There's plenty of WM devices to choose from without having to deal with SE's learning curve for a new OS.
SE's strong point is Symbian+touch screen combination, anything else will make them just another vendor.

LOL! Exactly my thoughts. When I saw the P5 my heart sank when it looked like one more phone with that odd QW-ER-TY keyboard.

Problem was not the keyboard, which is AWESOME, its only odd if dont try it, and i hope they do use it, problem was its old processor

A shame. It's for the best obviously, the P5 as it stood was woefully under-specified, and this whole episode just goes to show how lost SE are at the moment.

It's slightly mystifying to me how we went from the supposedly amazing prototypes that certain posters here were talking about back before Christmas, that seemed to mark a step change in UIQ development, to the completely uninspired "P1 Slider" of the P5 we've come to know about now. Even more odd when that whole process has now proven to be pointless, since even SE have realised that another rehash of the P990's platform is untenable.

I'd love to believe the P5 has been pulled in favour of some more ambitious re-working, but I suspect they've just given up on UIQ as anything more than a feature-phone platform, a la the G series. Anything more than that = Xperia = Windows Mobile, or some other serious OS from outside SE.

Makbil, I couldn't agree more, if the only high end smartphone on offer from SE when I renew in a few months is the WM based X1 I'll probably just get the HTC Touch Pro instead. Been using SE for years but probably not for many more.

UIQ is the problem here, the ideas are there but implementation is not possible is the framework is weak.
