Assuming you are using IMAP (has to be enabled at gmail end).

Connection Type: IMAP4
Incoming Server: imap.gmail.com
Outgoing Server: smtp.gmail.com
Encryption: SSL for both incoming and outgoing
Outgoing username: same as incoming username
Outgoing password: same as incoming password
Incoming Port: 993
Outgoing Port: 465

Thanks for the replies, guys..
It doesn't work though.
It just says 'connecting' when I click on send/rcv in inbox.

And when I try to send mail, it remains in Outbox and the status shows 'Queued'. After sometime a popup says 'server not found'.

I think it's a problem with this model. Is there anyone who has got it working on the w890?

its not a problem with the w890

as I often say with problems like this, "finding server" normally suggests that you are using a wap internet connection rather than a full internet connection.

check the data acocool you are connecting with and if the APN includes "wap" in the address then you need to change to one that doesn't. Usually the apn on vodafone for a full internet account is "internet"

There's no 'wap' mentioned in the APN. Mine is 'portalnmms'. (Portal & MMS)
I have an 'E' on the top left corner of the screen and am able to visit all websites on the browser.

I tried with POP3 first, since it didn't work, I enabled IMAP and disabled pop3. And now I have both enabled.
Still no luck.

ok, with the info you've given I've done some research and I believe that if you create a new data account and set the APN to www (no username/password) that "should" get you going

let us know how you go

I had this problem and I visited the Sony Ericsson website and had the settings sent through from there. Not a problem since. Dials in without an issue at all. I tried every thing I could possibly do prior to doing this and it never worked. Give it a go!

I got a w890 2 days ago (Vodafone).
SE doesn't have a corresponding certificate for gmail encryption {port 465 or 443}, don't ask me why.
If you want to send mail from your phone use the gmail app, I would suggest you use only the app when mailing back and forth from your w890.

If you really prefer to do it from the built-in functionality, try this:
1. Confirm that pop3 is enabled in your gmail account (Do this on a pc)
2. Create account on your w890:
2.1 Input your display name ie John Smith
2.2 Input your email address ie johnsmith@gmail.com
2.3 Input psswrd
2.4 Select POP3 for this excercise
2.5 POP3 server is 'pop.gmail.com'
2.6 SMTP server is 'smtp.gmail.com' (irrelevant, but let's put it in)
2.7 Cancel the receiving bit

OK, finetuning:
Go to 'Settings'
1. Select what you would want to download in 'Download' tab, 'Subject only' or 'Up to size limit'. For a start select 'Subject only'
2. Go to the 'POP3' tab;
2.1 'Encryption' must be 'SSL'
2.2 Check that the 'Port' is 995 (POP3 is 995; IMAP is 993)
2.3 'Connect using'; Select 'Vlive!' or a similar profile and 'Allow local conn.' should be on
3. Go to the 'SMTP' tab;
3.1 'SMTP authentication' must be enabled
3.2 'Encryption' enabled
3.3 'Port' 465

That should get you going.
If you still have difficulty in finding the server etc., go to your Vodafone shop and demand a reload of the phone software, or just the internet profile.

This works on all the SE phones I've tried and owned over the last couple of years.

Good luck
