The O2 PAYM web bolt-on (£7.50) has no 200MB limit, this is what you want for browsing on your phone.

AFAIK the other products are mobile broadband products and are what you would choose if you were browsing on your laptop.

it does have a limit, this is what it states in my 02 small print book,
"02 reservers the right to impose standard browsing charges for usage at any time if 02 resonably suspects you of using the service for uses other than permitted uses or abuse of the service, including using an atypical volume of data as compared to normal users of the 02 Web Bolt On, which will normally be less than 200mb of usage within a one month period, 02 will contact you before charges are imposed for usage other than for permitted uses or abuse."
what it basically says is use over 200mb a month and we will charge you extra for it.

There was a limit - there isn't now - it changed around February 2008

I don't know what has changed since July 2008, but it isnt the data bolt-on.

I know many many people keep posting this regarding o2 web bolt on.

I have updated many of these threads regarding this and will try to explain again.

When o2 introduced the £7.50 web bolt on they had a fair usage of 200mb. ** That doesnt mean that you can not go over 200mb **

however The limit was removed 2 months after the limit was introduced.

O2 now introduced the O2 web bolt on as unlimited. ** not 200mb fair usage as people keep saying **

O2 T'cs state that as long as you dont use it as a modem, peer to peer etc then you will be fine.

I use my K850i every day and trust me i go way above 200mb every month. My collegue also has a PDA and uses 250mb every 10 days.

You will also received a SMS from o2 when they think you are miss using the service, ** They wont charge you for the miss use, they only ask you to kerb your usage for the remainder of the month ***

If you go over the following month of you usage again and its not 200mb (Trust me its a nice ammount you can use before you even get there) you will get another wanring sms just to ask you again to kerb your usage and if you dont the following month you will get a call from the network customer care team regarding the issue **

*** If people signed up to the first fair usage 200mb plan, then if you are worried. Ring o2 and ask to swap to the new unlimited plan. They will do this no problems at all.


** I get unlimited sms on my plan as well and in 10days i sent over 1000 sms. I got a sms of o2 saying come on youve got unlimited sms why not send some more *** So i did

all networks have fair usage. However o2 have a very nice fair ussage on sms and 2g / 3g wap usage.

Dont abuse it and you will be fine

I provided an O2 link earlier today where it does mention fair use policy for these bolt on's. it was also confirmed to me by 2 customer service people and a team leader when I made my brief move to O2 last month.

I agree that you can exceed these limits but how much and how often is completely up to O2 because it is they that have stated this policy. i.e. its not unlimited in the real meaning of these sense because the user will always have the possibility of being reprimanded for using too much which is the complete opposite meaning of "unlimited"

it should not be allowed to be called unlimited if it isn't and its restricted by a fair use policy, or indeed 3 separate fair use policies depending on whether you go for the £7.50, £20 or £30 plan. if they're not going to apply the fair use policy then fine, but they should then remove the asterix from the "unlimited*" and remove the wording for fair use policy... and then there would be no need for a £20 unlimited and a £30 unlimited as we'd all be on the £7.50 unlimited!

I know what customer care keep saying, Ask to move onto the new o2 unlimited, and then the limit vanishes.

** one question for ever one who has any one that has gone over the 200mb ever received extra charges or a sms or a phone call from o2 ?? **

To my knowledge and i know loads of my firends have the bolt on have never received the phone call or a sms or ever been charged..

I have been caught out by O2 leaving old web pages in place before. I wonder if you can find a link to that page on the current o2 website.

In my case it was the talk anytime PAYG product - web page exists - product no longer exists

It is limted it says the same thing on the 02 website as it does in my small print book, which basically states use 200mb a month and were warn you and then charge you extra.
02 won't remove the word unlimted because then it will be
7.50 for 200mb a month internet usage which doesn't sound very appealing.

lol, so which is worse? o2 web pages being out of date or o2 customer service (several people) not having a clue what their own t&c are!

honestly, most phone companies have their faults but o2 in my experience seems to be the worst of the bunch

I have been with O2 pay and go for a year now and i use the unlimited data bolt on every month. Now i was told it is unlimited but still subject to excessive usage. It was 200mb but is not any longer. I once called O2 up as i was curious about how much i was using. It was not even past half way in the month and i had already gone over 200mb. So what does that tell you its not capped at 200mb. Though i dont use it excessively i do use it everyday to browse download a few things and read email. Its Orange who are rubbish theirs is capped.
