Had a look at those themarques, they are awfully steep. The BT ones anyway. I'm doing this on the cheap.
The house is doing ADSL alright, I have my current router plugged into my phone socket upstairs.
Isn't wiring all the same anyway? Just different plugs?

I'm a complete n00b at this! I appreciate all your help!

Like I said, I highly doubt your house is cabled for cat5 and you will have a serious nightmare cramping those cables. And if there is a break somewhere between the connections you in trouble. You might find it cheaper to buy a longggggggg ethernet cable. That is the cheapest.

naa Paul, putting the cost aside, I don't fancy wireless.
I'd go down the long cable route but my parents are gonna have a say in that. I can imagine that say will be a firm "no".

When you say break, do you mean break in connection point or in between points?

That has just confused me... totally.
I'll talk to the engineer on Tuesday, or just try working with what I've got.
