1. It hasn't got built in gps receiver but I think it can use BT GPS receiver and maps over wifi or gprs.
2. It can record sound in amr format. Performance is average.
3. You can use opera mini of course and any other java or UIQ browser without problems.
4. It can get installed Walkman 3 application from W960. It is not flashed, you just add the application.

i have a request for SE. Please release a phone with the same Design, size, form factor as P1 with a better processor and UIQ 3.3, am sure it will be a smash hit.
Ah. But Mobile-review, insiders, MacWorld consultants, etc. (read: SE's focus group, generally speaking) all disagree. Therefore, since it doesn't look like Nokia, and doesn't come with smashing new proprietary software that makes you pay per button- press, and has a touch- screen - it's a steaming pile of shit. And should not be supported in favour of Windows Mobile.
Thus, completely legitimate complaints on broken functionality was shafted the list of possible improvements the engineering teams should be working on, in February this year, after the latest firmware.
And therefore, Opengl ES on future SE projects is dead. And even less phones at the moment will be able to actually run OpenGL apps based on Opengl code (as opposed to marginally implemented WM apis). But since we can create weather- applications in Visual bloody C, no one cares about that.
Sad but true. Sad, but ¤%&ng true.

There is no call recording option still. but modders are working on it and it should be available imho. Anyway about the GPS, you can use GPS (maps) over wifi or gprs and with external bluetooth GPS receiver. (I'm not 100% sure about the gps receiver...)

@ mobile_fish
Yes you can use any GPS module with Bluetooth support. There is a GPS Accessory by Sony Ericsson called HGE-100. its like headset, connects through your phones fast port. it can be used as a normal headphone and a GPS receiver. i will recommends this accessory.
And the built in browser on the P1 itself is Opera Mini 8.65, which doesn't support the full HTML that you are talking about. But you can install Opera Mini 4.1 and have Full HTML browsing, la your PC.
EDIT: @Nipsen, that was Funny

I agree with nipsen's evaluation of the P1. However, I still stand by my opinion that if the P990 had the same amount of RAM as the P1 and proper support from SE, it would have been the best device on the market. (OK, this part was a little OT, just blowing off some steam

)
As far as navigation is concerned, you can connect pretty much any bluetooth GPS and use UIQ3 versions of programs such as Garmin, Sygic Drive and TomTom without any need for an active data connection.

No, that's completely justified, imo. It's got exactly the same software and hardware capabilities (some different chips), it just came one and a half years earlier than the p1.
..You know, I got to try it earlier in the summer, and it's pretty clever.. I regret everything I've said about sore p990 buyers now..

..I prefer the p1 keypad - but the lens- cover, and the flip covering part of the screen, the higher edges along the screen. More solid fit with the frame, and so on. The jog- dial is useful - so is the f/o f/c modes. It's.. hard to imagine that SE managed to botch this so badly.
And that they still couldn't care less about optimising the core of the OS for better memory usage when they had the chance a year after the launch.. *shakes head*.
On the other hand, tennis- players do have very nice legs.

If you're a fan of the P series, like me, you'll like the P1i.
Luckily for me, at the time of the P990i release, I was still very contented with my P910i...and didn't feel the need to upgrade so I decided to skip it and waited for the next series which was the P1i.
A very stable phone with good battery life. I was running on day one. I guess that's our advantage being old time P series users.

Actually it should be good if you are not a fan of P series too.. I mean there are people that never used P series phone. And you will quickly get used to it.

For me P1 is next to perfect phone. SPocket size, battery life, qwerty that allows super fast typing, fantastic multitasking, great software for aditional functionality. I will peacefully wait 2009 for possible change.
