Actually FAR manager, setool and etc... are more "scary" than XS++ (for beginners) It's the best doing research first and get every information you need of what you have to do and what may happen good and bad... After the first 3 - 5 times modding, you will find XS++ fun. Not to be scared of it.

I agree 100%, though I admit whenever I am performing flashing procedures, and even just FS actions, I allow a healthy dose of fear to creap in just to give me motivation to pay attention to what I am doing.

yes. If you have modded the music player icon in the menu to point to kdplayer, then you can select that menu item in settings/shortcuts/navkeyup as the shortcut.
On W910 and other A200 phones you can add java apps to shortcuts or dpad directions without modding.
