TBH, i thought the exact same thing. it DOES look ilka a cheap china-knock off.

Only thing i would consider now is the new touch with 64Gb.

Until then i'll keep my old 8Gb gen3 Nano and 32Gb gen1 Touch.

I think it looks better in the official pictures than it did in the spy shots, but yeah still, I think it looks a bit of a cheap knock-off. The design seems to be a step backward from the 'fat' 3rd gen Nano, but I guess I am kind of warming to it as I do with most Apple products. *sigh*

I don't like Apple design usually, but the 3G iphone is not bad.

I'm actually considering getting one to use mostly as a portable image and video display device and internet tablet, not actually for the phone component.

I love the navigation, though it's also worth waiting to see what wm interfaces arise to truly challenge the iphone UI.

I also reckon a 5-way directional controller is a pretty serious requirement on a phone, so I'm gonna be looking close at xperia, touch flo and other new WM UI enhancements. It may end up unnecessary to go iphone to get a cool end user experience.

I haven't heard anything about a cheaper more basic iphone derivitive, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do. Whether it will be called Nano I have no idea.

@max_wedge: It may be worth getting an iPod Touch so you don't have to pay so much on a locked in contract, or for an expensive unlocked version. It will do everything you just said you wanted it for, plus it has just had a nice redesign.

"Mr Jobs said the new Nano also had a "shake to shuffle" mode, which sends the gadget to shuffle mode with the flick of a wrist allowing you to go backwards and forwards on your playlist"

Hmmm...where have I seen that before?

Ah yes but haven't you heard when Apple does it it's innovation, when SE does it it's just a cheap gimmick.

Funny because at first I thought the whole shake thing was a gimmick, but I actually find changing to random mode by shaking is a very convenient feature. No need to dig into the menu to activate shuffle mode - just shake and there you go! I love it. (shake to advance or retard tracks is too fiddly - if you don't get it just right you end up advancing rather than going backwards or vice versa - but shake to shuffle works a treat)

Yep I have thought about that too. I'd like to check one out closer.

That's the same with the screen orientation thing. Sony Ericsson made a patent years earlier for screen orientation, but unfortunately, didn't release A200 early enough. Here comes Apple stealing that idea and implementing it first... I'm still surprised Sony Ericsson didn't sue. That would stop other companies like Nokia from implementing it.

Actually I don't want them to stop anyone mimicking it! Bring on auto-rotate as a basic feature on all mobile phones I say

For example, in the last few days there has been so called iPod Nano 4th gen pictures circulating around, but anybody with a brain can tell that they are pictures of a 2nd gen Nano that have been stretched using photoshop (or they are really good Chinese copies of the 2nd gen Nano).

Hahahaha take a look at this...
