“As for future plans, it’s too early to state anything publicly yet. When something surfaces from the labs, we’ll make sure we make big enough noises about it though.”

Translated: When we think about you, when hell freezes over, we will make software and applications available.
You should use a different translator then, it makes no sense what it said to you.
UIQ endorsed SF. SF promised they'll open source codes. So even you could make these softwares and applications available, hopefully pretty soon.

UIQ is not SF and also devices from the new SF OS WILL NOT be UIQ backward compatible. Exactly what are you saying?

That's exactly what they're doing.

I prefer UIQ, and a lots of us as well. S60 is a different story, it's developed for use with phone key input only, UIQ is a fully touchscreen based interface. There is only one better phone user interface on the market (comparing with UIQ 3.3): Mac OS X. It's far more intuitive in some basic tasks, and it's much faster, but probably it's because it got a much faster hardware as well.

I didn't read the announcement, I thought they'll open the sources before they merge the code, actually they'll just share between each other.. this is sad, but anyways, I'm not that pessimistic then you are, I hope that they will provide some great apps in new motorola phones, and probably these apps could be backported to our old UIQ phones as well.
Btw the announcement, in step by step (just the interesting part):
The acquisition of Symbian Limited by Nokia, expected to close in Q4, 2008, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
Software assets are contributed to the foundation, including Symbian OS and S60 by Nokia, UIQ technology by Motorola and Sony Ericsson and MOAP(S) by NTT DOCOMO and Fujitsu.
This contributed software will be available under a royalty-free license to foundation members from the first day of Symbian Foundation operations, expected 1H 2009.
The Foundation will work to unify the platform, with the first unified foundation release expected in 2009.
The foundation will work to make the platform available in open source by June 2010 (two years from the Symbian Foundation announcement)

Very sad..story is over and IMO we can find only one guilty : SE for sure
When others like nokia and samsung always grow up and use fast Cpu and good thing like very good camera ( at least nokia have 10 handset smartphone with 5 mpx..at least samsung have 5 handset with 5 mpx now..) very good video recording...at least nokia 10 handset with VGA 30/15 fps...like samsung...
but we have only G900 with ancient QVGA 15 fps...really funny....
when nokia use dual arm11 on high-end at least on 10 device .samsung too..SE stick with cpu of P990 ( 4 years old) why? what that mean? very difficult to underestand customers want fast device?
Shame on SE....really destroy the best os I have seen on handset...why? with F*cking managment and poor strategi ..they dont even know what they want.....Damn...Damn...

i agree with you mazi...
for the past 2 years they are being used to implement old tech into new shells...
but i think the effects of the changes in the management will reveal themselves in 2009....
i will hold any judgments until the end of Q1 2009. (and to see what actually the symbian Foundation OS is capable of..)
