Well, what you've heard is not true. Walkman phone do not produce great audio quality, it can be best described as passable despite what these geniuses with expensive headphones claim above me.
From W800 to W902 they all sound the same, believe me, i had the W800 and i have listened to the latest offerings. Just use the headphones provided (HPM 70 etc etc) and it should be fine. And please for god's sake dont go for sure, they are extremely expensive and they WILL NOT improve sound quality because the audio hardware in W phones (if there is any) is quite limited so the headphones will not be fully utilized.

^^^ this Mr. genious (Nokia fanboy) even doesn't know what he is talking about, so I wonder how he rate Walkman and quality of sound they produce.

lol hes probly like "OMG! Sony Ericssons walkman is just a gimick, it doesn't mean anything, Nokia's Xpress Music is in no way a rip off of walkman and it is not a marketing gimmick. The Xpress music features higher quality sound than Sony's NWZ series"

I know for sure that w902 and w980 are better than the xpressmusic, at least the 5310 and the 5220:)
And QVGA: Are you sure now, that there are no differences from w800 to w902 in terms of music quality? I even doubt that you've listened to w902, because in terms of music it is better than the xpressmusic phones

Hi, i am new to se. i've heard these guys produce some of the best sounding music phones even better than the ipod.... is it true ?
you've heard that from a liar. walkmans are at ther bottom of the pile when it comes to audio quality. if you want the best, get a samsung(eg innova), nokia(eg n82), or a moto(eg E8 ROKR).
not only are sony ericssonss disadvantaged in the audio 'quality', but they also disadvantaged in their lack of 3.5mm jack.

I don't think so... Walkmans have pretty good sound quality (for me).

And many other people are satisfied with these phones.

From my experience if you use the same earphones in all SE phones till W850 the sound is the same (except the symbian phones that were slightly better). The new models since that improved a lot and you can get excellent sound quality (better or equal to some of dedicated mp3 players on the market -->ipod too). The only problem is the loudness. I never tried w980 or w902 but im sure that with a good pair of phones you ll get better sonic experience than ipod. Currently im using a N95 8GB +Shure SE210 (Im very happy with this combination... the sound is more clear and loud than SE Walkmans, plus the stereo widenning work perfectly with Shure SE210...something that i never put on with other earphones! .. The sound quality is even better than my ipod touch with the same shure SE210!!)

True. The audio quality from SE's Walkman phones stink compared to a proper Sony Walkman MP3 player, like my daughter's NWZ-A829.
