And the whole objective of the ring tone is not to alert you when the phone rings? Same with sms tone? Weird.
Just mute the ring/sms tone when you go to bed and you'll be fine. Not as easy as with most other phones but it's the best you can do right now
Unfortunately, with UIQ switching the phone on silent disables the alarm. I have the P910i and now using the P1. They both work the same.

That is bizarre - why should my phone alarm work when it is on silent - let alone OFF

- how can you get away from the thing - do you have to remove the battery??? - do you want the alarm to wake you even with the battery out????
SE have provided a perfect control system in that you can turn off all sounds except alarm, you can put the phone on flight mode to staop all calls and messages. If you want an alarm clock on - why on earth would you turn it OFF
This goes back to what I wrote earlier, your preferences.
SE should give us the options instead of giving us the only option. I pointed out that I don't use my phone's ringtone. So, while this arrangement suits just fine it doesn't suit a lot of us as well.

I think SWMail is working on that one...

I think 'Flight Mode' is supposed to be as it says... To cut out all transmissions so that the phone will not interfere with any equipment in aircraft, hospitals etc whilst leaving the PDA/ games functions etc available- but since there are alot of other uses having some customisation of the settings would handy...
It's just amazing how many people nowadays refuse to turn off their phones though - even in hospitals...
