Yes Nokia is ahead of Ericsson in marketing terms, they were first with logos, ringtones, pictures, etc. The flashy stuff, the kiddy stuff. But for real purposeful utilities in a phone, that's were Ericsson leads. I travel for a living and my life is closely attached to the contents of my phone.
Ericsson incorporated bluetooth first, they gave us a colour screen first, and unlike Nokia Sony Ericsson doesn't discard a feature from a phone when it releases a new one. For the power user (Sony) Ericsson is first and foremost. And I know what I'm talking about. I have one of those heavy, unwieldy things, a Communicator 9210i, Nokia's #1 business device. No bluetooth although bluetooth was around when it was released, I can't send all my contacts to another device wirelessly, I can't synchronize with a notebook wirelessly, I can't switch on infrared if the SIM is out (except to receive images in the album).... Shall I go on?
I've owned Ericssons: 337, 338, 688, t28, R380s, t68i and now P800.
Nokia: 8850 and Communicator. Bought a 7650 for my wife but not for me (get the point!)
Unfortunately Ericsson did not catch on to the importance of marketing until late in the game. I just hope it's not too late. But they have always made better, more functional phones. And that's why where it really matters Nokia will always be behind. But it's a twisted, shallow world in many aspects today and that's why (Sony) Ericsson is not even second best today.

@bigjobs, i`m using a p8 & l can`t sit back & read a post like yours without laughing at your ridiculous comparison, the only real comparison is the size (with 7650 keypad shut) they are simular size, oh & they both have a cam.
I can only guess that not only have you not read the p8 spec, but you have DEFFINATELY not used one, p8 is VERY similar to my old bluetooth ipaq in use ( fast & using todays technology), 7650 is just a big colour camera phone. they are EASILY 18mnths apart in their level of tech.
