You're quite right on both accounts, it depends how desperate for the info he is.

I just thought we should get out of the realms of possibility and get some actual evidence of recovery into the discussion. Those were simply the first two solutions to pop up on a Google search which is probably the best answer as it seems no-one here has experience in recovering lost messages.

I think that most of the users here are well aware of the evidence of recovery software, at least of those for HDD's and memory cards, and it's nice to see that people have also invented solutions for SIM cards, as it might be useful for those who, as you said, are really that desperate, although I still can't imagine, which kind of SMS that would be
