so as I understood you can have only a single map with single zoom level in mgmaps?
If that is true, you could try Trekbuddy, because there you have
layers of maps with different zoom levels - like I said country - 11, city - 15 (or bigger)
This way your maps will be much smaller, as there are
many areas, where you don't need
high zooms definitely

sorry I didn't read carefully
I see that you have different zoom levels in MGmaps
but
let me describe Trekbuddy's structure
in Trekbuddy you can't zoom in or out, but you can choose layer.
first you choose
layer - name it
zoom level
then in a single layer you have
maps, not a single
rectangle map, but many rectangle maps of different areas that do not intersect.
This means for layer called 'country' you'll have level 11, and you'll have zoom 17 layer called 'street' that does not cover the whole country, resulting small size on disc.
hope this helps

i tried both mgmaps and trekbuddy yet mgmaps is so much better 4 me.
Tip: When DLing maps with gMapMaker , choose 64 tiles per file and u will get much les files (faster copy on card).
Use zoom 16 only for cities, for most stuff 15 is good enough.
