Motorola? Who? Lol i cant even remember what their last model was
i can remember many of their innovations in the mobile word - a significant number, and which follows that the mobile world would be much less progressed than it is if it weren't for moto.

Moto are great. They just put all their eggs in one basket handset wise (RAZR) and unfortunately fell by the wayside.
I still hope they make some sort of comeback.

No sorry you hear me wrong. I never said Motorola were crap. I know they are quite good have invented some good tech and they have their good points. What i was saying was i cant remember what their last model was they released. They have been so quiet lately. I know Moto have made some cracking phones but they lost their way. Shame.

So, the balance sheet is still quite healthy - lets hope this isn't eroded completely this year.
I'm sort of glad they're contracting, we should see more top-tier high-impact devices from now on.
Hmmm . . . Let me put it this way, you are not exactly into business managing and economic analyse. How do I know that - your turn to guess

Your last sentence is exactly the opposit of what should/will happen, that is if you still want to see/have SE, this time next year! Their market share dropped to only 6%. I bet if it weren't for Sagem (silent but 'hard working' low end partner), SE should have dropped to half of 6%
On the other hand NOKIA's profit dropped to just under 500million Euro. Not bad but still . . . And NOKIA must 'cover' Navtek's and NOKIA-SIEMENS networking's losses ! Even after that,NOKIA still post a 100+ million Euro profit for the quarter

Well. Everyone has bad days. i dont think Nokia came into fortune right from the word go wither. SE is a new company. they have been profitting very much since the last few years they have been in business. So, a slump shouldnt be too much of a worry. they have been losing for the last couple of quarters.

@Dude I don't buy that reason either. You see,7 years is a quite long time in the fast living/changing/developing cell phone market. I still remember SE were trumpeting all over the place how they will take the market 'by storm'. They were supposed to be competition to Nokia not Alcatel for market share

Apart of 2008, all the other years have been bad. Ericsson figured that out a while back. Sony still helped SE. Unfortunately they themself are in difficulties right now! My take on this is: If no drastic changes happen and happen soon, Ericsson might pull out and leave Sony alone. Sagem are not that happy with SE either. Their name is associated to much with experive devices and lately bad quality, a thing which Sagem does not like.

I hate to say it but Mario is right when he says this is really bad news for SE. Minor setbacks were last year, this is of serious concern.
They've already cut back on staff, restructred the business but it's not enough. Now another 2000 staff are going, how are they going to produce new phones faster than the slow pace we all complained about last year?
What's the economy like in Scandinavia at the moment? I know it's not good in Japan. The cellphone market is shrinking because people are holding on to their phone longer and looking for added value like they get from the Apple App store.
Let's not lose sight of the fact that SE is a niche manufacturer and sometimes niches dry up.

Ahh,...2008 has been really bad for SE and everyone agrees to that. Till 2007 they were making profits of more than 300 million euros a quarter. They, unlike motorola, who are really the gonners this time are trying to fight back with good devices. 2008 was a nightmare, whatever they touched, turned to stone.
