No worries man. Actually, beside the complaints I listed above, I'm pretty satisfied with at&t service. But the fact that T-mobile seems to support more features for less money, well that really makes me want to switch. I admit its not bad enough to prompt me to cancel mid-term and pay the cancellation fee, but I just don't feel I'm getting as much value as I would if I were with t-mobile.
@bigdawg
You make some good points, but how come T-mobile offers similer discounts on their hardware and still unlock their devices? And will at&t provide me with a SIM if I have an unlocked phone from europe, lets say? If so, how much will it cost for the 1000 anytime voice plan? I mean, if the price is the same or less than the $40 i pay now, well than I may indeed look to buy a phone elsewhere next time. My intention is not to bash at&t simply for the fun of it, but to point out the weaknesses in what I feel is otherwise a decent service. My sincere hope is that other users who are considering sp's will benefit by reading about the experiences, good and bad, I and other users have had.
@buster99
I hear your frustration. I was also pissed off to learn my T68i could not be used as an IR modem for my Palm m130. However, I can understand it if at&t is unable to provide tech support on every pda-phone combination. That would be a lot to ask from a cellular provider. I agree with you about cable, way too expensive. Did you say $20 for a 2 MB plan? I thought they have one that's $13 for 4 MB, no?

I was told by a number of sources that I should be able to surf with the Clie and T68i, it is the settings that need to be worked out. The guys at Connection manager said it works everywhere but in Canada so far?! In Canada, they take us for a ride.....$5 for 150kb, $10 for 500kb, and $20 for 2mb!

@ t68ifan
My intention is to clear some of the misconceptions that are thrown around in discussion groups like this one. I do not want to upset anyone or make enemies as I would be the first support anyone who is in fact posting correct info. I agree that not unlocking phones can seem a little unfair but I understand why they don't do it. If you bought an unlocked GSM phone from Europe and wanted to activate it on AT&T you could do that easily and the plans would not be any different. I know someone who paid almost $700.00 to buy the GD-87 from panasonic because he could not wait until GU-87 american version is offered by AT&T and Tmobile in a few months.In fact I myself am waiting for that phone. I had the chance to see the prototype 5 months ago and Ican say that there is nothing like it on the US market even thoug it does not have blue tooth.

Since the customer already has a contract with ATT, I don't see how unlocking the phone would make him change providers. I mean, this is completely unfunded since cancellation of service incurs a penalty comparable to buying a new phone. In the end they make their money anyhow. 50 dollar a month plan times 12 makes 600 dollars. add the 200 for the phone, and you have spent 800 dollars a year to make phone calls. Damn, saying it like this does sound a bit rediculous...
I've had ATT before, with TDMA, and I must say that it was fairly decent, even in the terms of customer service. But I can see how one would get frustrated that their shiny new T68 cannot be unlocked. I went overseas this winter and needed my T68 unlocked. Called T-mobile, and in 5 days time I received an e-mail with the unlock code and instructions. In my way back I brought over a GD87 and T-mobile people were very happy to assist me in setting up WAP access on it. As far as coverage it's not Verizon, but it works along the major highways of the East and Central states, such as 65, 75, 95, 59, 40, 10, and so on and so forth. This is from personal experience.
My point, since I got dragged into T-mobile, is that not being able to unlock a phone leaves you with a 200 dollar Solitare game console that you can't use anywhere. If ATT wanted to build customer loyalty they'd best offer these little extras. Not everyone knows of the existence of this forum, and furthermore not everyone is as tech saavy as us in here.
ATT sucks

I was thinking about getting a gd-87 But it does not have JAVA!!! that is something that just doesn't fly with me..Thats why Im going to buy a 7210 later this week. Im just scared that the software might buggy, But I don't think this will be a problem since it has been out in europe for a few months any changes that needed to be made could have been made.
