Yes, the W995 does have a higher rating.

That's people rating phones they haven't used themselves.

If you're keen on the camera then note how different GSMarena rated them:

W995
So what's up with the picture quality? Unlike the 8 megapixel Cyber-shot C905 - whose photos astonished us - the W995 suffers a similar problem to all other Walkman phones: the pictures are noisy and oversharpened, and the lively colors and contrast are gone. Another old friend makes an appearance here too - the purple fringing on the edge of buildings. Even the picture detail is less than on the C905.

But, hey, don't get too gloomy over this - the overall impression is good. The W995 camera catches the moment just as any Cyber-shot does. It has almost all of its features and the photo quality is reasonably satisfying. There is certainly work to be done on the image processing algorithm and we really hope this will happen before the phone is out on the market.

i8910
The image quality of the Samsung i8910 Omnia HD is pretty much as good as we have seen on a mobile phone. The color rendering is spot-on, contrast and dynamic range are also great. Fine detail is also very good although if anything could be improved - that's exactly it.

The best part about the camera is there are no visible defects of any kind. No traces of oversharpening, no lack of contrast and no excessive noise. Plus, getting the exposure right at all times makes sure most of the photos are keepers.

On the other hand, I don't think people buy Walkman phones for the camera. Still today you have to choose which function is most important to you: good camera OR good music player. You can't have both in a phone from .

The photo samples I've seen from the i8910 haven't impressed me by the slightests.

Nor have the ones from the W995, for that matter.
I'd say they're on par.

first of all, who wants a Brick in their pants ???
second, who wants a pure Touchscreen ??????? (can it be more boring to use)

Samung HD: Dimensions 123 x 58 x 12.9 mm
Weight 144 g
W995: Dimensions 97 x 49 x 15 mm
Weight 113 g

dont start about 16mil vs 256K......SE screens is Top-notch. (ex, C905 screen (which is similar to w995) is just insane vibrant, have never seen anything like it .
besides, w995 camera is really good. it produce better colours then Samsung HD (not MORE, but better)

w995

Samsung

despite of all other features, size and price... it's just insane to say that W995 camera is better than i8910 but ok I understand, it's your Illusion of Reality v2.0

when did i say it had better camera ????????? (read what i write please)

i quote myself: "besides, w995 camera is really good. it produce better colours then Samsung HD (not MORE, but better)"

and yes, i REALLY think ex, Samsung cameras have Nokia-oversatured-woaah-colours....they looks cool, but hardly 100% realistic !
(a yellow flower should look like a yellow flower, not like some cool Photoshop image)

I agree with plank on one point and one point only, ie, that Samsungs have oversaturated colours like Nokias.

As for size plank, come on, it's a matter of preference. Besides, the W995 gets bigger than the Samsung when it is slid open.

Probably the one area the W995 is going to completely beat the Samsung is the quality of music player, I do think the W995 will be comparable to the Iphone.

Touchscreen is also another one of those that different people will either like or not. I for one don't want a touchscreen ONLY phone but one with a QWERTY keyboard plus touchscreen ala P1.
