The T300 poly generator is actually very high quality, and has not much to do with the 24 channel part. Oonly if the Midi uses all 24 voices will the 24 channel actually play a part, but i find that the output when listening to the T300 (especially when listening through heaphones - use the FM radio handsfree, or a normal handsfree) is really up to par and beats some sound cards in the market.
When listening through headphones, it even comes quite close to my XG based Yamaha PSR 290, whcih is a formidable MIDI keyboard.
This could have something to do with the quality of samples used in the sound generator. It certain beats all the current Nokias, the P800 and the Samsung T100 which dont have the quality even when listening through headphones.
WHich is why i am currently looking for a speaker handfree that clips on to the back to "boost" the output of the poly ringtones to a loud enough state to hear in public!
I know its possible cozyou shoudl hear the phoen when listened through a car handsfree kit, its absolutely amazing, and LOUD!

IMHO you shouldn't compare T300 and P800. T300 is meant to be a fun phone, and thus it just HAS to have special poly-tones, whereas P800 is mainly thought to be business phone, where polys are nice to have, but not THE reason to buy that phone...

The t300 speaker has more midi chanels cuz it is only used for ringtones!
the p800 speaker is a REAL speaker, i plays mp3, midi, wav, u name it so it doesnt need that much channels, plus it sounds better cuz it is a big speaker, so the conclution, when i hear a t300 on wav ringtones i will admit that it has better speaker

Yeah I think they have the same MIDI soundbank. I've got a T610 and my sis has a T300, and they sound identical playing the same tune side-by-side (although the T300 is quieter, and the speaker quality isn't quite as good)

The P800 actually has 24 channel polyphonics.. The T610 has 32 channels and sounds far superior. Something to do with the P800 midi instrument set only being 100k i think.. As others have said, use .wav files they sound much better! ~Eva

well... technically since the P800 "generates" the midi from software using the Beatnik Engine (it doesnt have a Hardware MIDI generator as such). it coudl theoretically have 32 channels too, all it needs is a tweak in the Beatnik Engine. Also theoretically with a good sound bank, it could sound equally as good as the T610..
However notice the use of the term "theoretically" because having more channels will take more processing power to play back the MIDI, and havign a larger bank (which you can download) will take more memory, and delay the start of playback considerably. SE/UIQ/Symbian chose a compromise when designing the playback system.
My advise is to use a WAV file. Record the Midi to wav using a computer (litterally record the playback, easy if you have a Live Soundcard) Use a good soundbank so the midi sounds great. Apply any special effects to the Wav file (such as EAX) and keep its length within 30 seconds. then save as 16bit, 22Khz Mono with IMA ADPCM codec. this will give a file of around 200kb, and willl sound pretty good on the P800..
The other option is to use Beatnik RMF files, since they store their own samples, and tend to sound tremendously better (as well as havign "voices" in some of them)
