I've always liked detective novels. I started with Sherlock Holmes in my teens and moved up to Agatha Christie novels. Now I'm reading PD James' 'Death in Holy Orders'. I don't recommend you start on PD James, they are long and use excessively descriptive, complex vocabulary that will put you off. It took me a while to get used to them, once you do they're addictive.

Try some blockbusters too. Recent one's I've read are Clive Cussler's 'The Chase' and John Grisham's 'The Associate', both very good and easy to read.

If you haven't read for a long time, then a book of short stories might be a good idea to get back into the swing of things.

Edit: BTW, I thoroughly suggest you track down a local second hand bookstore, you can find all manner of interesting stuff for not much moolah, and the staff can always steer you in the right direction.

Yeah i love Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy its great. Also love murder mystery stuff like Sherlock or Agatha Christie like Poirot. Though i aint 20.

I can recomment Roddy Doyle. The Commitments. The Van. And many more, when you've read some more , try ; The Star Henry Smart. Anyway READ ! It's food for your mind.
