Unfortunately due to the way our networks set up business, most people don't realise they can import a phone and use it, so they go direct to the network to buy their phones. So a W995 at $999 just doesn't look good.

I wish people knew of phone imports like people here do, cause that would drive network phone prices down.

through networks (network reseller stores) here best i can find is 599. but other little retailers, are doing it for about $500.

but yes, some people either dont know bout importing, or they prefer to buy local stock to get full warranty.

also the exchange rates play a big part (well here any way, aus dollar is at 93c with the us$ P) because a lot of the wholesalers trade in USD.

Yeah, now is a good time for importing in New Zealand. For example, my imported Aino undercut the W995's NZ RRP by over $100.

Don't know where you got your info from about the C905 and W995 being discontinued as they're not going to be for a long time yet. The recent price drop is because of the newer upper range of phones SE have released. The Cybershot and Walkman range are now being set at mid range below the Entertainment Unlimited range.

The C905 went ages ago, i think it went in May, orange, 02, 3, t-mobile, phones4u no longer sell the C905, and haven't done so for a long time, voadafone and CPW will be selling old stock. It is likley to very much be the case with the W995 as well, just wait and see...

I think the w995 will be around for sometime yet. Its been far more stable than the c905 plus its selling well. The w910 is still around so why not the w995? It will eventually be down to £99 one day we hope. I seen a w910 still selling for £99 which is stupid. The w995 will still be going strong in a years time i predict same as some of their earlier successful models. C905 was not really what i would call a success.

You can really tell which models were failures as the likes of the w910 are still selling and the C905 is no longer available, W910 is only £69 which is pretty cheap and costs less than the W395, the C902 is only £129 as well.

Yes i recently got a new c902 from CPWH for £129 no problems. So far But look how long the k800i lasted and CPWH still sell it online. By the way what happened to Bargain Phone Thread? This report on the w995 should have been in there. Everyone has stopped the Bargain Phone Thread.

Maybe SE are cutting the price of their phones and their own RRP due to poor sales this year ?

I'd only consider the C905 as discontinued once its been removed from the SE online store (currently available for £359.99) as that is usually the case. Plus its only recently been released in some countries so I'd certainly say its not discontinued just yet.

Online store C905

Just because a retail outlet no longer supplies a product certainly doesn't mean its no longer being manufactured. Usually a phones manufacture life is 24months from the date of release. Sometimes slightly longer (eg K850 has only recently been discontinued from being manufactured after just over 2 years being available). The C905 has only been around for 12 months and the W995 half of that so I certainly doubt they will be discontinuing them anytime soon. Price drop yes but nothing more.

Just to keep on topic. The W995 is still available at £359.99 on online store so going the retail route will certainly grab you a bargin. Even moreso if the phone is sim free and not branded.
