It does not make real sense to measure power in hours. It should be a unit for power or energy, like Ah or W. Or a percentage of fully charged. It's the same with the gas meter in a car: Measure the amount of fuel in Liters or Gallons or percentage of full tank, not in Kilometres or hours. An on-board car computer can calculate how far you can travel or for how long time you can drive the car with the current amount of fuel based upon the current speed and fuel consumption, though, but that's something different, and the calculation will be incorrect if you suddenly change the speed, or if you change from going uphill to downhill, for example.

Whether it is possible to show hours or not is not the point. The point here is to show a proper percentage.
How come other phones are able to show a proper depletion rate ?
How come previous Sony phones (in UIQ) still shows a constant depletion rate by percentage ?
Why can't we use the same calculation methodology ?
I know this phone is on S60v5 and I do not what interfaces available from S60v5, but from user point of view, I would expect to see constant depletion rate rather than slow depletion till 60% and then suddenly the rate increases and the battery is gone within 3 hours.
That is exactly what happened with me. Yesterday morning I saw 50% and thought since it took 1 day to eat up 50% it will last. Suddenly at lunch time the phone went black and no battery !! I would have thought with same the rate of battery usage, it would have lasted another 1 day. It did not do.
So what ever is the argument, one point I can still say that SE needs to improve the battery meter and battery life for sure.

I'm not sure that I expressed myself clear enough. I fully agree with you, I want a proper battery indicator too, preferably also displaying the percentage with digits.
Then, I was only trying to explain the difficulties with calculating the correct value for the meter. The problem lies in the voltage/charge ratio curve, the slope is almost zero (i.e. horizontal: the voltage is nearly constant) all the way until the battery is almost drained, and then the voltage falls very fast. This makes it very difficult to calculate charge level based upon the voltage with a fair accuracy, and the effect is usually as you describe, a slowly decreasing charge value until the charge value suddenly drops very fast and the phone dies. It would have been much easier if the ratio curve was a straight line with a constant slope, but I don't think someone would want a battery with that characteristics, i.e. the voltage decreased to half when the battery is 50% charged.
I can imagine that it's too expensive to use more advanced methods to determine the charging level, like the methods used in laptop batteries. On the other hand, I find the accuracy much better in previous

phones I have used.

If you have a Satio on the Orange network, it has a different home screen with a load of customisable buttons, one of which is phone status which you can press to display battery life in %

Is there a simple way to see the amount of power in percent or hours that is left in the battery on the Satio? The information exists there somewhere in the Satio, since it is shown in the PC Suite when connected to the computer.

Go install a widget call DeviceInfo v2.0. It will display everything from storage space, firmware version, IMEI and of cos battery status in %.
