Piero I don't agree. look at 6700 classic without Zeiss branding, it's the best 5MP

For those that think Carl Zeiss is just branding should look up the history of the Zeiss brand. They practically invented all the modern lens technology starting with microscopes and moving to cameras as they became available. As I understand it the point of difference with Carl Zeiss lenses was that they quality tested every single one instead of a sample like other lens manufacturers, dunno it that carries over to the mobile phone lenses but I doubt they would dilute their brand reputation with low quality lenses for high end Nokia phones.
Sony Cybershot digicams use Carl Zeiss lenses and when Nokia announced they had secured exclusive rights to Carl Zeiss lenes for mobile phones, it was a slap in the face for , I said at the time that it was not good news for and Nokia camphones have bettered those from ever since.
There is more to a digicam than a good lens but it certainly helps.

Well I guess we'd have to find out what the 'quality testing' entails but quality testing every single cZ mobile phone lens seems a bit much.

I'm not saying they don't but considering the huge amounts of phones Nokia cranks out it would slow down the mass production process somewhat / or be labour intensive, if they were quality tested beforehand.

small misunderstanding, we are not talking about Carl Zeiss optical glass for professional use. however, there's no magic behind "Carl Zeiss" printed on Nokia phone. size does matter... you won't see full potential of big sensor without good glass, tiny sensors have no potential and even the best glass won't help them, it won't hide noise, it won't improve post-processing. quality starts and ends on the sensor and branded glass is just a marketing marionette

No, I like Sony Ericsson phones but wish they were more Sony and less Ericsson. The swedish are not very good at making phones, Finland and Japan are better with excellent build quality. The cybershot branding and features are all from Sony, they should ditch the losers from sweden.

Anyway, the N95, N96 and N82 are all the same 5mp camera but the only difference is N82 has xenon flash, N95 has led flash and N96 has the biggest screen and dual led flash. My N96 has had several firmware updates and it updated the camera image quality too.

The N96 is now the same camera quality as N82 and N95, except the N96 has way more features and has 16gb built in so its the better all round phone.

Well i know Carl Zeiss are good i have had Sony cameras with them but sometimes they tend to oversharpen images. Also some of Sony's latest compact cameras are getting awful with style over quality. I just think the lens in Nokia phones is not really Carl Zeiss. Also the 6700 is very good. Nokia do make good camera quality though not always the best there is. Speaking to some camera pros in shops and real pro photographers they are rather stuck up when it comes to Sony cameras they dont like them. Personally Fuji are my fave they are also best for low light.

Interesting:

"Carl Zeiss are the company who make the camera lens’s for the Nokia NSeries handsets and have a long history in the camera market and not many people get to see the hard work and detail that goes into creating these NSeries phones"
